John Wick's Two Page Ad
What did everybody think about John Wick's two page ad in Coonhound Bloodlines and American Cooner this month? His letter to us all reminded me of why he's well respected and why I should give his books a try. I'm getting Volume I this week. If I like it, I'll ask for Volume II for Christmas.
His ideas are hard to swallow at first but stick with them they work.

When it comes to writing books to help a beginning coonhunter, I haven't seen anything that comes close to what Wick writes. Not only does he know what he's talking about, he's a pretty good writer, too.
I'm not saying he's perfect. I about wanna puke when he goes into one of his, "Look at me, look at me, look what I've done" monologues but if you can get past that, he has alot of knowledge to offer.

Agreed, people think that if it did not happen yesterday that it did not happen. Wick has forgot more than most know. (no I dont own walkers but have grew up hunting around them.)

I AM NOT SAYING BY ANY MEANS I KNOW EVERYTHING BUT I AM GRATEFUL SOMEONE LIKE JOHN WICK TOOK HIS TIME AND WROTE FROM HIS EXPERIENCES ON COONHUNTING AND HOUNDS. IF EVERYONE ON HERE IS SO KNOWLEDGEABLE THEN WHY HAVE THEY EVEN READ HIS BOOK. YOU DONT HAVE TO AGREE WITH HIM BUT I THINK AT LEAST GIVE HIM CREDIT. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAS HE HELPED GETTING STARTED IN THIS SPORT? I READ HIS BOOK AND USED ALOT OF HIS ADVICE. CANT KNOCK HIS ADVICE JUST THE DOG. ALOT OF DOGS DONT HAVE THAT GREY MATTER BETWEEN THIER EARS TO EVEN BREATHE RIGHT. HIS BOOK SHOULD BE USED AS A GUIDLINE NOT A SET IN STONE, GUARANTEED THIS WILL WORK EVERTIME EVERYDOG MENTALITY. THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY.

i have never...
bothered with anything john wick has to say or do. if it is someone in the magazines, all the time...i ignore. alot of good hunters out there that no one hears or reads about...and they can and do help alot of beginners. as well as us oldy goldys. i've been lucky and blessed, with a few youngsters that do competition hunt as well. so that keeps me on my toes when i have the opportunity to walk through the timber in the fall. LOL! i have a copy of vickie lamb's book and love her articles!! she doesn't use the self-proclaimed righteous approach as some of the men do. whether speaking to them or reading about them. respect for a person's opinion. name of the game...vickie has mine. and mike...i'm not knowlegeable. LOL! i'm still learning all the time after 32 odd years. LOL!! they just keep changing all the rules. LOL!! oops...almost forgot, mike "THANKS".......

AMAZEN COONHOUNDS
i think his first book was a good one. i was new to the sport and people really weren't real helpful in trying to help me out. some were, most just wanted to sell me something, no real advice.
this book is hard to digest if you do things the quick way. john's way is done with patience. for a lot of people that is hard to do, but to each his own. am i saying he is 100% correct? NO, i'm just saying that this man has done a lot for the coonhound world. have other's done a lot? YES, but they haven't written a book about so that they can share their knowledge with others.
some say there is nothing innovative, well if you are just starting out like i was, you didn't know where to start. this book helped you get going in teh right direction. i played football from 7th grade through college and a little pro ball, i read bill walsh's book on the west coast offense and i was really unimpressed. i expected so much more, it seemed like common knowledge. if you are in the game for a minute then this book might not mean much to you, but for that person that has very little to no knowledge of the sport it is very insightful. as you grow in the sport you then begin to formulate your own views and practices. i have already deviated from john's style on somethings...it was things that i felt i could do another way and get the same results.
yes there are those times in reading that he goes on this look at what i've done kick, but i think that he does that to validate his views BECAUSE people will ask the question "why should i listen to you?" when goes on his tangents it's to give the newbie read more reason to listen to and heed his words. i mean i give him his credit for making a lot of the products that he developed, but the way the market is people are taking his product and making cheaper and of the same type of quality. that is business! he seems kind of sour about people making money off of his inventions. he should have patented his patters and ideas so people could mimic them or at least he gets a cut of their profits. like pat riley, he trademarked the phrase "three peat", so when ever some one puts that on a shirt he gets royalties from their sales.
again i think the first book was good, i will definately get the second book, when i don't know but i will get it...
John Wick did do 1 thing that impressed the heck out of me.
Years ago when Feilder was writing his "product reviews" he reccomended a tracking system. Wick called him out and offered a challange. A bunch of money if he could find the collar with the reciever. Dont think Feilder ever took him up on it, and the tracking system died. He saved alot of people alot of money on that one.
As for his books, I never felt the need to read them. I had just as good or better teachers as him when I was young. To bad I wasnt as good a student as they were teachers.
Can't mess with....
Good ole UNCLE JOHN!!!

Well i know what he hasnt done and thats get barred from a regestry can you say the same.
well ive read both book wether you agree with wicks thoughts or not they are good books fer the beginner and long time hunters i read and listen to everyone cause they can contribute in certain ways what may work on one hound with man A's hound man D's method could work i read his 2nd book alot of it ive been threw in the last 22 yrs but if ya got a hound one day thats given ya problems the book has it in black and white to where yer memory may not remember so you can grab the book and bam its right thier
now ive been huntin 22 yrs was taught by a man that has hunted 60yrs he taught me everything he knew and ive learned as much as i can about these hounds along the way i will never know everything about coonhounds and coohuntin just like aint no one on here that will so we need to learn from one another and help every young person out along the way i owe it to mr bowline to help and give back as much and tons more than he did with me fer gettin me into coonin

You know it never ceases to amaze me how some folks are so talented at running someone else down. I truly stand in awe of some of you people. If only you would run your hounds as hard as you run other people down. How many of you actually know John Wick? How many of you have the capability of doing or saying anything remotely positive? The United Kennel Club should be ashamed of even allowing such nonsense to be written on a forum. Or are they just as negative and completely ignorant as the majority of the people on this board? Kind of makes me wonder. My name is Wally Hendricks and I try to run my hounds instead of running down my neighbors.
