Moonlight Nights
What effect does the moonlight have on coon movement? Right now, the moon is pretty bright and the hunting in our area has been pretty tough. Thoughts?

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.
dont move
they just dont move as well in my experience
we treed two on the outside last night and one tree that we could only shine a little over half. some moon lit nights are better than others.Travis

Every time its real moony, the coon seem to run for ever, like they dont want to get treed. Not sure if the dogs are ahving a hard time or the coon jsut wont timber. Never really had a problem with holes or anything though.

Whitey Dogs ROCK!!!
I use and recommend Kelley's K-Lights.
We've had a hard time striking any hot tracks, or very few. I have a pup I'm trying to get going and this week has been tough to walk over tracks. I probably should put her on the shelf until better moonphases come along.

maybe
maybe yall just need some better dogs lol j/k. i dont know what it is. ive been out on moonlit nights and treed coon but alot of the time when its bright out they just dont move as good. i guess its like deer, they move by moon phases so maybe its somethin like taht
Went last night and treed 4 up a big oak. They all looked to be this years coon.My experience with moonlight nights has been some good and some bad.I think if they want to move they will, but have a front moving in and I think that helps.Just like I heard deer don't move on a full moon night, then again some say they do.Treed those coons last night and saw about 6 deer crossing roads on the way home.

went hunting tonight
took my 4 month old female out of rabble rouser and she got out and hunted with the 2 older dogs. i was proud. but sadly we lost one tonight. friend i hunt with had one of his good female cur dogs get hit by a car. we walked out into this field and the dogs struck and took off towards the highway. we tried callin em back but they on a track and they got over the hill out of sight. we waited and he said this just dont feel right. bout that time we could hear a car comin and we heard it hit her and the bastard never even stopped or slowed down, just kept on goin. i sprinted toward the road and was walking down it hollerin for her and i seen her layin in the road dead already. this was a good dog and she died doin what she loved to do. even though it wasnt my dog i was pretty down bout the whole deal. just thought id share that with yall.
Alot of longer walks and more den trees is what I end up with but in 30 days i'll be there.

The moon doesn't make coon faster or put off less scent ... it just gives hunters and excuse they don't have when the moon isn't out .
Moon
Wind
Rain
Snow
Frost
Tornado
Some hunters just don't wanna get out unless the weather is fit for a picnic .

down here in south MS we have the same probelm when it is a full moon the coon just dont want to climb

A good track dog has a tough time in the moonlight and such ?
IMO moonlight has absolutely nothing to do with tracking.
The behavior of game is what changes.
Anyone ever notice on a dark night you will practicly trip over deer, they just stand there unconcerned about you presence.
Try this on a moonlight night, you wont even get out of your truck and every deer in the township will be headed for the next county.
