WHY does the stud

always get the credit when a litter of pups do well, and the female is basicly forgotten?? Any thoughts on this appreciated. Even yours Bruce.

It is the easiest excuse to come up with.

For the same reason the stud gets blamed when the pups dont turn out....

Or better yet, for the same reason the stud gets blames when the Dam does not concieve.....

Haven't you learned by now.....the stud is to "blame" for everything!

Man, i didnt read carefully enough. I thought he meant why the stud gets the credit for the pups NOT turing out.

Man the females get alot of credit. If you dont believe it just look at what people pay for reproducing females.

I agree that the female does not get enough credit, a few do; an example would be the Stylish Queen dog in the Walker breed....But as a whole when you see a pup at a hunt and ask what he's out of the pup's owner will often answer with the stud's name...Likewise, when talking about dogs in the hunts you will hear folks refering to Rat dogs, Zeb Again dogs, etc. refering to a particular stud.

I would think that the reason the stud gets more credit is due to many factors, a few are...
1. The stud gets advertised, while the female does not. Therefore there is name recognition with the stud that does not exist with the female. (It's easier to remember a name you have seen in print several times a year)
2. The stud produces more pups, out of many females so there's more in common among 1000 pups out of a stud than there is between 10 to 40 pups out of a female.
3. It's possible in popular breeds to hunt with a lot of pups out of a popular sire, whereas all of those pups may be out of different females..

Because the majority of coonhunters are men. If the majority of coonhunters were women, then we would give the females credit.

Chris Herring,
You posted a very well thought out answer that makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for all your thoughts and replies.

money,money,money

who is going to breed to a stud whose pups are no good? Advertisement is all stud dog. I only hunt females. If i had a stud who was not producing I would be STUPID to say that, I could just say it was the females fault instead of admitting it was my stud.
