Walker Men? Yadkin river?
I'd like to get some input on the Yadkin River strain of Walkers. I'm familiar with the breeding, but am curious to what experience and opinions you have on the strain. Hunting, mouth, temperament, etc. I'm hunting a Chico dog on top and nailor on he bottom but haven't hunted with the Non nailor YR dogs like champ, etc. Thank You
I had a female off of Champ. She was as tough as they come. Nothing super flashy about her , but you could tree coon no matter what the weather or conditions. If the coon were moving , she'd find one. She would hunt a spot out and check in ONE TIME , and then go till she found one. If you didn't catch her as she went by , you knew you were in for a walk. If she had something working , she was deaf to other dogs. One night , I seen her stick with a track while her pup faught and killed a kitten on the ground. She went on and treed another of those kittens. Didn't matter if it was on the ground or on the tree. She would , however , go to another dog if they struck first and take the track away and beat most to the tree. Pretty much straight too. In 11 years , she never started a deer. She did take a few away from other dogs when she was younger. But after a few scoldings , she was broke.

Yadkin River Dogs
I been huntin them dogs a long time and have hunted with most all the better known Yadkin River dogs (Champ, Crowder, Yadkin Tar Rattler, Old Rock River Sackett, his mother and most of his litter mates, Tree Blaster, Southern Sound Jake and many more.
I haven't owned a dog for the last 20 some years that didn't have that blood in them. I found out a long time ago that them dogs were not only excellent track and tree dogs with loud mouths that started early but they also consistently reproduced the same generation after generation. Judging by the stud dogs of today it looks like most of the coonhunters in the country agree. The Yadkin River dogs have been good to me and I'll hunt them until they put me in that ole hole and throw the dirt on me.
