Walk with wick Vol.ll

Has anyone read the second volume of walk with wick? just wondering if its any good or just repeat vol.1

Posted by larrypoe on 09-29-2006 08:15 PM:

I never read vol 1.

I never understood why everybody thought wick was the only person that knew what a dog looked like when it leaned on a tree.

I haven't read it but I just ordered a copy. John Wick is a promoter and has done well at it. My son had won a copy of the first edition and we stopped at WOW to see if John would sign it for him. Not only did he sign it but spent about 3 hours with us and made us feel at home. A couple of week s later he sent my son a post card to see how he had done at the Iowa State youth hunt. He then sent a Christmas card. Now I don't agree with everything in his book but in my opinion John Wick is first class!!!

John Wick is probably not an expert, I read his first book and it was alright, I like to read and get as much information as I can. You have to be smart enough to seperate what is useful and what isnt, Some people dont know everything like others on this board.

if you are refering this to me, it was a wasted effort because I don't claim to know anything other than to turn off the bathroom light as I walk out the door.

I wear a hat, I haven't won any world hunts nor have I claimed to have won any,I don't claim much of any thing other than a few wider women's kids.

This is not a knock on John Wick...he is a stand up guy....in researching (some of you older comp hunters probably rem. this)
his first book JW walked around all the hunts with a steno pad and I think at times a tape recorder and talked to all the old respected dog men....this is when he was a pup just starting out.
I have read his first book when it came out and think it has some useful info....the best being what all good dog men try to do ....keep it simple and try to think on the dogs line of logic.

I have read Vol 1 & 2 and enjoyed both of them.

I think its well worth reading, especially for those just starting to coon hunt. It could save alot of dogs lives.

I have only read the original, but I bet both of them are a heck of alot better than 99% of the stuff on here.

These books are great for someone just starting out...Its up to the reader to pick and choose how they train there dogs..Theres a lot of information. That most guys would never think of..John would be the first guy to say. Hes still learning about dogs. All good trainers will tell you the same thing....Its a learning process that never ends......

its a lot easier to

buy a coondog then promote it , versus raising, then training a coondog, then promoting it ....
