Beautiful pup you got Kokomo. That should be a racehorse. The 'Wipeout' line has the speed to them. Great breeding both ends.

Your dog's sure look nice. Will any Dizzy pups be hunting at Autumn Oaks this year?

I would like to know more about wipeout dogs. I have heard they are fast and do well down south. We'll see how one does north of the Ohio river.

I know Daizzy sure is the most energetic pup I have ever seen. She loves to run. If she is as good at finding coon as she is at looking cute, I'll be set.

KOKOMO, I HAVE 2 WIPEOUT HOUNDS AN I LOVE THEM BOTH. I MUST TELL YOU THAT 80% OF WIPEOUT HOUNDS START SLOW.THEY WILL USUALLY START AROUND 15MON TO 2 YR OLD. I HAVE ONE THAT STARTED SLOW AN ONE THAT TREED HIS FIRST ONE AT 9 MON OLD BY HIMSELF. BOTH OF THEM CAN FLAT RUN A TRACK FASTER THAN 90% OF THE DOGS I HUNT AGAINST. COMP. OR PLEASURE HUNTING. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU SOME.

Why would anyone be upset at you?

This is strange. I have never heard of a shy pup out of dizzy. Have you skinner? You should make sure she gets lots of positive love and attention. If they does not fix it soon there may not be much hope. Make sure no one is harassing her.

Perhaps one of the 13 grand children has unintentionally done something to the dog that makes it shy. Kids can play rough. You can't take a puppy away from its mother and everything it ever knew and throw it to 13 groping grandchildren and not freak it out.

John Wick says in his book WALK WITH WICK that you shouldn't handle a dog a lot for the first several days after you get him to give him time to adjust to his surroundings. If he leaves all he ever knew and is over handled by a bunch of people, it can scare a dog.

Perhaps the owner of the puppy and gyp abused it before selling it to you. Often a spooked dog happens from environmental conditions (i.e. the people who make it shy). I have seen people mistreat their gyps and pups because they have not compassion for a dog they are just “using.”

Perhaps you should have paid more attention when buying it. I don't understand why you bought it if it peed and shook when you got the dog? If it was not that way when you got it then what has happened to it since to make it that way?

Also you should never buy a dog without a period of time you can return it for a full refund. I'm pretty sure Mr. Dohoney provides such a time period to try the dog out. Did you get it off him or someone else who breed their dog to Dizzy.

Perhaps dizzy was bread to a bad female. No matter how good the sire is 50% of your dogs genetics still came from the female.

Perhaps it's just a naturally shy dog. No dog throws 100% good pups. Maybe you did nothing wrong but you just got a shy dog. (Though I find this hard to believe from Dizzy) Shy dogs do happen. What ever you do, don't breed it!

I have never heard of a dog that shy ever getting over it. John Wick says in his book WALK WITH WICK that you should give up on a dog that is "shy or spooky to the point that even though you've spent a lot of time with it, it's still scared and distrustful of you." (Page 329)

Perhaps someone with more experience and knowledge than me can give you better advice.

Have you talked to Mr. Dohoney about it?

Marcus,

Thanks for the info. I had not heard that about wipeout dogs. So you're saying I may have slow starter but she'll be a fast at running a track if she favors the wipeouts? Dizzy pups are early starters according to Mr. Dohoney's July ad. It will be interesting to see how she turns out.

Anything else anyone can ad about wipeout dogs?

We were around the campfire and she went over by herself, got up in this chair and took a nap. I thought it was funny.

i have been to Mikes many times since he had dizzy. Most of the time there would be anywhere from 2 to 8 litters on the place. every single pup would run and jump and play with you. I did see one that came out and played a few minutes and went back into her house. Mike laughed and said she thought it was feeding time. Pup was different from the rest. I would say she was'nt shy, she was just a loner. You could pet her no problem. We took a hide and she treed the hardest out of all of them. She is now in my kennel. I personally have never seen a shy pup out of Dizzy, but I have'nt seen them all. this is just my honest opinion....but I'd say if Mike knew a pup out of a litter was overly shy, he'd culled it and thats the truth. Something folks don't realize about Mike is out of a litter of 10...he'll cull what needs to be culled even if its the entire litter. He may only end up 3,4,5 pups out of a litter of 12 or he may sale them all if he thinks they are top notch. Now I'm talking about buying a pup from Mike himself, not someone who bred a bitch to Dizzy.

Kokomo gave you some great advice don't think theres anything I could add. I do agree if the pup is overly shy, cull it. You can also call Mike, he is a really nice guy that trys to do right. He may replace your pup, he may not all I suggest is it won't hurt to ask at least. 812-472-3563.

One of the female pups I had off of Fiddler was shy as a pup. I started taking her to work with me, to the store, poker night and all the rest. The more she was around people, the less shy she got till she was over it. Went on to be a pretty nice but I did'nt breed her. The newest little pup, Lizzy, when I got her the owner told me she was a little hard to catch. He said some kids had kinda chases her around some.(I love honest people) Now when I turn her loose, I'll call her when she comes I'll give her a little treat stuck in my pocket. I'm weaning her off that now and shes coming when called and seems to be happy with just a good ear rub. Your pup is 6 months old so it is still very young. Expose her to all you can and pet her up when she does good. Good luck with your pup and like Kokomo said....not all of them are gonna make it. Sackett Jr, by ukc records, so far has been the best reproducer ever, and thats roughly 20%. 2 out of 10 at thats at best.

A lot of love and tenderness and sometimes that don't get it out of them. I had one no matter how much I tried she was even scared of me the hand that fed her. She no longer is with me but at someone else's house and from what I hear she is doing ok.

Is Dizzy chop or bawl mouthed on track? How loud is he? How accurate is he? What kind of track dog is he? Is he calm or a bit higher strung around the place?

I want to thank all for their advice and this is a he and he is absoulty beautiful. We did not buy him Mike was a very generous person and donated it to a walker Youth show and my granddaughter won him. I just have never experienced a shy pup and am open for suggestions. All my grandkids do not come over at the same time and they are very good with animals. I am picky with them also. This is my granddaughters pup we just keep him here for her. He is starting to come up to me when I let him run the 2 lots we have fenced in for excersie. He has a sweet personality and he is not scared of anything else just people. I have talked to Mike and he said that he was more then likely used to him and it is hard for him to break away from that. He is starting to show a bit of improvement. Mike told me to bring the kids over and let them mess with him, but he runs and hides from them LOL. He is even eating out of my hand now also so is there hope LOL? we have only been in this for about 2 1/2 or 3 yrs so still learning and I do not in any way mean to bad mouth Mikes dogs I just need help. Mike seems to be a very nice honest person. This pup was not shy with him. Maybe he just liked him better.

More pics more peds......

Redwood,

You have a very fine looking dizzy pup there. I hope it's ready to handle the bears out in CA.

Black Knight,

It sounds like there is a lot of hope for the pup to me. I encourage you to buy the book WALK WITH WICK and read pages 176-177 where he talks about bringing a dog home and how to treat it at first. I think he talks about it earlier in the book too. This may help you. Other topics will also be helpful.

Go to this link and you can purchase a copy of the book.

Bear season just opened here (9/23), Boone made it to 3 bear trees in 1 weekend, and one of those he treed himself, at 15 months old, the only help he recieved was from my 16 month old Hardwood Henry Grandson.
