Expense of Autumn Oaks ?
Every year Chrys and I read about AO in the CB and hear about it from folks on this board and a few folks we know that have gone there. Every year when AO rolls around we sit here and say to each other," Dang, I wish we were going." Well, Folks this year bye darn we are going. We got us a motel room reserved already and an estimated gas bill of about two hundred dollars. We are scraping up every nickle, dime and penny we can get together to go. My question is, what does AO cost most of you on average to go? What are some of the things a first timer shouldn't miss out on? Who all on here is going so I know to look foward to meeting ya'll?

Well, for us, we take our camper, an old 1968 pop-up that we found for just $100 a couple of years ago, and pay the camping fee the fairgrounds charges for the nights that we are there that is not free for UKC. We take plenty of groceries, I usually go to Save-A-Lot or Aldi's and stock up on dry and canned goods, and there is a grocery store just up the road from the fairgrounds that I go to and buy parishables such as milk, meat and such. I fix our meals, to save money because as we all know the food the club fixes is WONDERFUL! It does cost, so we try to limit ourself to just one Pork Chop meal while we are there. Otherwise I use the crock pot and the grill alot.
So for us the entire week end, and for us that is Wednesday thru Sunday AM, usually cost us just at $100 to $125. That includes gas to get there and back home.
We always have sweet ice tea made and the coffe pot is always ready so come on by and see us!
And I usually always fix way too much food, so there will likely be a snack or too left also
For us the best part is having everyone stop by, sitting around and talking away the time, and as most who know him, Jeff is at his best when this is going on, LOL!
I really enjoy myself and always look forward to our "vacation" at the Oaks!

I'm making my first trip up -- wooohoooo!!!! I'm lucky to be able to share a ride and hotel with a friend and we are taking a lot of food with us, soup and cold cuts and such, to cut down on the food bill. I figure it's going to run me about $500 for my share of everything. Looking forward to a lot of fun and great learning experience.

it cost us about 1000.00 to go for the weekend. That if Friday thru Sunday. Food, room, shopping, gas.
Shoot the food is free. All you have to do is go up to someone cooking out and just act like you have known them your whole life and eat away. By the time they figure out they don't know ya your full and moving on anyway..lol
well gas of course this year will probably be the major expense for the trip.. im figuring around 120.00 for gas food and lodging im bringing with me . When its all said and done ill probably end up spending 250 to 300 .
I will be there sometime thursday , hopefully thursday morning.
I hope to get to meet as many of you folks as possible ....
goodluck if your entered and by all means enjoy the best coonhunting weekend of the year...
later warn

I got a room Thursday thru Sunday for $250 and I am paying for that for all four of us. My food and whatever fun I decide to get into will be extra. If you looking on buying the place out which you very well may want to do when you get there. Then it will cost a bunch. I usually take anywhere from 500 to 1000 with me according on how much hooch I can sale before then. LMFAO!!!!!! Just picking. Hope to see you all there.

I have no idea. I have always been afraid to know for sure what I spend up there. We take a camper and set up beside the Raper center. Close to the Showcase and Show ring. There are several of us who have been getting together for years and having a cook out or pizza or whatever on Saturday night. I think Damon is planning on bringing Shrimp again this year. You are all welcome to visit and share dinner with us. Warn knows where and when. So does Hobo. I will be in the showcase with Patch and Bud agin this year. Please stop by and say hi. Dont forget to introduce yourself with your board name.
PS bring enough money for at least one pork chop sandwich and a cone of ice cream.
Look forward to seeing everyone again this year or for the first time.

I hate to even think of how much we spend on that weekend, but it is all worth it. We always have a great time up there. We stay Thursday through Sunday. I would figure the $1200.00 range would be about right though.

I love AO..
It is one experience I wish all dedicated coonhunters could do.It was one of the first real dates John and I went on when I was really young and I dont know if it was young love or I just like coonhounds but I was hooked. I've gone more years than not since 1981. I've hunted reg dogs ,nite champions and shwoed.I usually just pitch a tent-- grill at the tent and soak it all in. Thank God for the winter classic because it's about the time of the year when I start itching for AO and it get's it out of my blood for a wile longer. For me the most expence is the gas after I get there I live pretty cheap.Hope to see y'all there travel safe....

DISTANCE QUESTION
Anyone have an idea how long a drive it may be from Lexington, KY to the Autumn Oaks gig???
Just looking at our schedule and realise my husband, Bob, and I will be in Lexington KY from about Thursday thru SUnday of that weekend, for an AKC Regional B and T Specialty.... IF WE GET BORED
(How can we NOT?) Perhaps we could slip away to Autumn oaks for some period of time.
Only problem we may have would be finding care for Webster if we travel to the Oaks... I think I recall the hounds MUST be UKC registered to be on the grounds???? If so, he'd have to be left in KY....
If there is a chance it is a reasonable distance...perhaps I'll meet a few of you guys after all! Of course.... if any of YOU get bored and want to watch many breeds of AKC dogs trot around a few rings at the KY Horse Park.... it's the same weekend!
Happy Hunting! Heather WIlliam

I'll be there Sat. morning. Will have a green tee shirt on that says PUMP THIS!!!!!!!!!( from a pub called the pumphouse on Kelley's island on Lake Erie) Just a way to recognize my ugly mug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank Laura!
We'll try to fit it in for sure then! I can't imagine what it will be like to be at five days of akc show...BUT, we are getting to meet some friends from B and T rescue, Webster's Breeder and his hound family too. It will be MUCH cooler if we also get to meet some of the fine folks I've met on here...who share the hunting interest as wellas the hound thing!
We will plan to look you all up!! Some will hinge on how my back feels after the drive from MA to KY
I have an appt with the spine surgeon on Sept 12th... they Wanted me Sept 1 and I said..NO WAY! I'm driving to KY and Back then...LOL= should be GOOD and sore for THAT appt! It'll SO be worth it though!
Thanks!!!!!!! Heather
