Constitutional Amendment - Marriage Protection Amendment - Declares that: (1) marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman; and (2) neither the U.S. Constitution nor the constitution of any state shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents of marriage be conferred upon any other union.

Marriage Protection Act : I would think that if we want to protect marriage, we should deal with infidelity, spousal abuse, and our 50%+ divorce rate.

Marriage Discrimination Act : Here's where we would deal with same sex marriage, inter-racial marriage, inter-religion marriage, stupid people marrying, predjudice people marrying, ugly people marrying, fat people marrying, etc. YOU CHOOSE WHO YOU WANT TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST!!! I'm not serious about this. I don't believe in discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, looks, body type, intelligence, etc.

I think a committed gay couple better represents the SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE than an infidel, abuser, or divorcee (exempting divorcees that are innocent victims of infidelity or spousal abuse).

I really don't care if someone is hetero or homo, except my wife. I certainly prefer that my baby girl turns out to be hetero, but I will love her no matter what!!! (She's only 16 mos., but I'm her dad for life!!!).

We are at a standstill in Iraq, the mid-east is about to explode into world war, the North Koreans are firing long range ballistic missles, gas is $3.12 a gallon, and Bush has Congress tied up over gay marriage. Give me one good reason why I should give a crap who marries who.

Looks like you might have voted against it and that is fine, but
the President does not control Congress or OPEC or the weather like many believe.

The poll was posted to see how many were in favor of the ammendment. It looks like about 75% are for it. It will be interesting to see how many Senators, of the people for it, are representing them with their vote.

ONE good reason and the only one I need is... THE BIBLE says it is WRONG!

Somewhere along the way, the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court have misinterpreted the US Constitution. How could all fifty States be wrong?

America's founders did not intend for there to be a separation of God and state, as shown by the fact that all 50 states acknowledge God in their state constitutions:

Leon, I, like many, prolly most Americans am repulsed by the ideal of gay marriage. I am also against drunk driving. I don't support a constitutional amendment against gay marriage and I wouldn't support a constitutional amendment banning drunk driving. I just feel these are issues that belong in the states, not the federal government. And I think Bushes only real reason for pushing the amendment is his attempt to focus Americans on something that the majority can wholeheartedly support him on. My feeling is that right now, this country has bigger fish to fry than gay marriage.

I would say we dont need an amendment banning it. I do however think that the union should only be allowed to be recognized in the state it was done in. So, if you want to be gay and married move to Califiornia. There isnt much there besides a bunch of tree huggers anyway.

I am glad that you are repulsed by the idea of gay marriage.
Most if not all states have laws making drunk driving illegal and punishable with fines, jail time and or prison time.
if it is in the constitution then the states would not have to deal with all the court cases they are now. One time and it is done, instead of 50.

The point of the post was to let people see if they were being represented, by their elected officials, inline with their beliefs.
Based on the number of votes in favor of the ammendment, I think it is safe to say that is not the case for a lot of us.

Here is a little humor for you that I think we might all agree with.

Noah in 2006

In the year 2006, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in the United States, and said, "Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me.

Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans."

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying, "You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."

Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!
When I started gathering the animals, an animal rights group sued me.

They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will.
They argued the accommodation was too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space.
Then the EPA ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd
conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.
I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights
Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew.

Immigration and Naturalization is checking the green-card status of most of the people who want to work.

The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union workers with Ark-building experience.

To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.

So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to
finish this Ark."

3rd sec of Oregon's Bill of Rights

Sec. 3. No law shall in any case whatever control the free exercise and enjoyment of religeous (sic) opinions, or interfere with the rights of conscience.

The rights of conscience implies one doesn't have to follow other's religous beliefs, so I would say it is taken out of context saying all states have believing in a Judo/Christian God in the state constitution, one follows one's conscience here in Oregon. Some people's conscience ain't the same as others.

The laws about abortion, gay marrage, assisted suicide are all hot topics because of religious bias.

My God doesn't give a toot about who marrys whom, my God didn't intend people to be kept alive longer than their bobies could handle by tubes and ventilators or for babies to be born months too early and kept alive so they could be dependant on life support and special cares the rest of their lives. That's human will, not God's.

If you want to argue the economic impact of allowing gay marriage on business and industry, that's different....

I don't even know why this is a political hot topic. Who does it hurt if a couple queers or lesbians want to get married? The politicians have a million more important things to take care besides a bunch of religious busy bodies worring about what homo's do in there spare time. I promise you the religious folks run off more people that they can convert by worring about everyone elses business but there own.

How does discriminating against gays protect marriage? I am married and I don't feel one bit threatened by two gays, or lesbians getting married.

If Gays/ Lesbians can't get legally maried then they do not have the same ability to allow their mate to collect their social security in the event that the bread winner dies.

There are a whole host of financial inequalities if they are not allowed to be legally married. They pay the same taxes as you do!!!

If I believed that they woke up one day and said I WANT TO BE A HOMO AND BE RIDICULED AND PERSECuTED THE REST OF MY LIFE Then I would not stick up for them. I believe they are born the way they are and the best way to see less of them is to accept them. Persecuting them so some of them pretend they are heterasexual and get married and produce offspring only perpetuates the gene.

Why are some people so obsessed with this topic anyway?
