Purina Points Standings

The link above will take you to the current Purina Standings. All ties in the top four for each breed have been broken.

The only event not processed and included is the MS State Championship, which is the final Purina Points Event of the year. That event was held last weekend. Will those results move someone in or out? We'll see. Interesting!

We'll have a nice surprise announcement in the coming weeks, as it relates to the payouts of the 2019 Purina National Championship and beyond.

If someone in the top 4 of each breed in their division doesn't confirm, will you take the next dog in line or just be one dog less in the hunt? Just wondering, thanks.

Tyler, it looks like it is up to Purina Committee. What if a dog That is eligible dies? I bet that they haven't thought about or discussed that yet. This is all brand new. Is Doug Cundiff a member of that Committee?

Good question. Last year which was under a different format as far how the top of each breed were chosen there were many in the top that didn't confirm or did and were no shows. Top alternates would be a idea.

He is out of the race and looks like still working on HD. Don't worry you've got your spot sewn up to go so nothing to worry about. The good news is most breeds have the full 4 filled and the couple that don't do have multiples so hopefully that takes care of the ones that just show up to collect their check before ever turning a dog loose. I know this hunt is about breed involvement but it is kinda bad when many have 40-50 points and all stay home and some only have 1 cast win and 10 points and are automatically in. I'm not sure what if anything could be done under the breed format this hunt is ran under and it's original purpose to crown breed champions then an overall. If the case were true that some of the smaller breeds like to hunt against their own they would be showing up. Maybe the new zone format will help in their attendance.

I think that the new format was set up to encourage more dogs to show up at the Purina Hunts and it seems to have worked. They are trying to get more dogs involved, not get a few dogs to go to more hunts. The UKC World Championship format is set up to crown the "best dog". This format is set up to get more dogs involved in a year long race. And Jen, I would like to see Mr Pettit get to go also.

I know after last year they knew some kind of change needed to be made so hopefully attendance will be up. The suggestion of the alternates or even wildcard spots to finish filling when someone can't attend is still a good idea and option. The one thing I would like to see is that cast winners get a little more and breed winners slightly less. I do think it is a turn off for some of the bigger breeds on the format of the payout. Maybe 2019 change will address it.

But it is a turn on for the "smaller" breeds. Do you want to see more dogs or more walker dogs?

No it hasn't been as is obvious with the past numbers or more would have been showing up not just one dog to collect their check without even hunting in a single cast. Other cast winners from a few other breeds don't get a dime unless they make it all the way to the finals. Not a lot of draw to drive hours spend hundreds for many. As I said maybe this zone format will get a few more involved time will tell. The notion that getting to hunt against your own first draws more of the smaller breeds will make them enter up and show up has not been true so far maybe this time.

I brought this up just for the simple fact, that if ukc wants numbers up, it makes more since to have alternates so that you can fill the hunt to the max dogs. This also makes for a more competitive hunt when it is full!! Just my opinion

It does and in my opinion you have came up with a good idea that would be simple to implement. Also for those not in the top some my keep trying at various events to stay in contention with hopes of possibly being an alternate. I'm sure UKC has read your suggestion and if it is not put into play for this year maybe they will consider for the future. Dogs come in heat, die and sometimes people can't make it to these hunts for personal reasons. Another one I think they need a wait list for is the new Dual Champions hunt at Autumn Oaks. This past August was it's first year and it filled quickly then had several no shows. A wait list for it would have filled it. No shows replacements would have been extra $ in UKC's pocket, a win win for them and an opportunity for those that weren't one of the first 100 to enter up.

Tyler, the current rules allow for those who finished in the top four of their breed only to be eligible and advance to the National Championship.

Oh my goodness, this year's hunt is out. Jen, maybe y'all can get the rule changed for next year to allow 5th, 6th or 7th place dogs to hunt if the top 4 don't show up.

No rules change needed they make up their own format for picking dogs. Who knows what will be the plan for next year but if it is the top so many a couple of alternates eligible to fill vacancies is a pretty good idea.

Still patiently waiting, don't the December Bloodlines start arriving this week? Has anyone gotten theirs yet?

Thursday Nov 22nd the Bloodlines will be mailed out. I can hardly wait for next week to get mine. Is the big Purina National Championship going to be held in April at Greencastle, Indiana? I guess that I had better start looking for a Pro handler. I better call Wonder Boy and see if he will be available.

You don't get it... the breeds do not make the rules as to how dogs are picked for this hunt so no need to contact anyone.
This thread has put a bug into the ear of those that make up the format for this hunt so maybe in the future there will be alternates to fill vacancies left by dead dogs, cycling females or those that cannot make it for whatever personal reason.
There is a hunt we try to get a ticket for that hunts 64 dogs and sometimes the alternate gets the call with just a few days of it's start that they are in. Last year one who got this call drove home in a brand new pickup.
