Pfas

Just read that 43 states currently have excessive levels of PFAS contamination in the ground an water. Michigan being the worst with more than 600 confirmed contaminated sites. Of the top 4 side effects Thyroid damage is listed. I read where a lot of you guys have experienced Thyroid damage in our hounds. Just wondering if there is a possible link??

Certainly cannot be ruled out. Where does the majority of coonhunters live? In rural communities. And there is all types of chemical use being used in those areas for agricultural and other types of applications. Think of all those standing puddles in fields that have been sprayed that the dog goes to and laps it up.

Didn't think about that stuff. I live along a river and flooding has been pretty bad this year. Fortunately there is no spraying for mosquitos around here like that. But the farmers here on higher ground have already started their chemical assault on the fields around here. First, pretty strong herbicide to kill off unwanted vegetative growth. Next will be fertilizers and pesticides. I'm 40 years young and I can remember running around as a broke kid catching grasshoppers for fishing bait. They were everywhere. Haven't seen a grasshopper in years. That's a little off topic but it ties in with chemicals being used and the misunderstanding of their effects on human and animal health. For years and years chemicals are used before the effects are seen and then we try to reverse them. I definitely think there is more of a possible link between that and the dogs thyroid issues rather than the food they are eating. Supposed to be something like 90 million dogs in the US. If the food they were eating was causing thyroid issues, there would be way more red flags flying than just in the coonhunting world because of all the brands of feed that are used, they are not just limited to coondogs.

You are right Nathan , and so are lots of others , the left thinks the right is anti-environment but we are not , because of lobbyist aka paid prostitutes for big pharma/big ag , coupled with bribery and corruption at the FDA/EPA level for 60 years by establishment politicians of both parties we are in this mess and it is likely just the tip of the iceberg look at the number of kids with various forms of asbergers and autism. And I am not anti-medicine nor anti-farm either, just like we NEED to guard jealously our Constitutional Republic 2A and hunting rights etc. We all need to be good stewards of the environment as well. S/FI!
