Pedigrees Before Birth and Pedigrees Once Born.

Pedigrees mean a lot to me before a pup is born. If the parents are a good representation of a certain line of dog. Then you have the best chance in getting what that line of dogs are know for. Important to remember I said GOOD REPRESENTATION of a line. Not some awful or weak mouth dog from a line with loud mouths. Not a sorry track dog out of a solid tracking line of dogs. The parents represent the line they are from. The pedigree and ancestors mean a lot until THE PUPS ARE BORN.
Then you put the pedigree in the drawer and work with the pup. The training and how the pup responds means everything. It's characteristics living up to the standards of a good line mean everything. If it falls short then don't breed it and think you can get it back the next generation. You will get some of what you want, but your just digging your hole deeper and someday will never crawl out of it.

Oh my goodness Bruce, are you saying that you think all pups are not born equal? What about male vs female pups? Do you think that male pups are born the same as female pups?

Bloodline

I agree but keep the Bloodline, bred her. Inbreed and Linebreed, nothing chances. All Bloodlines have weak, strong, pretty, ugly. The Pedigree is the greatest influence the majority of the time but there is always exceptions.

.

You have to breed the good of what a pedigree offers. Let the sorry ones fertilize the plants. Don't use them to produce more fertilizer.

Bruce, I get ignored a lot. I am used to it. Sometimes I am just talking to myself. Most people don't think that every pup in a litter will turn out to be a coondog. But a whole lot think that if a dog's littermate was a nice hound that it will reproduce like the littermate. Now isn't that weird?
A lot of people ask me what dog they should breed their dog to and tell me how it is bred. They don't tell me what traits their dog has, they just tell me about it's papers.

Interesting .
I can site from my own knowledge of two littermates. One made NtCh and the other GrNtCh.
Now the Grntch was the better of the two so the guy sold the ntch. Campaigned the Grntch and advertised him at stud.
It was soon discovered that the Ntch one was the far better reproducer. Interesting enough the GrntCh one's pups reproduced better than he did.So his grand pups made outstanding hounds.
Another instance this one particular cross produced 3 grntch and 2 ntch. I like to look at a whole litter believing that the genes are more set if you have say in this instance 5 out of 8 making above average hounds. The percentages are there with better odds of getting a coon dog and not a dud. One or two out a litter don't cut it with me.
Anyway ,not one of these hounds could reproduce.(Actually know of this happening a couple times) And all of them were bred to some good dogs.
Here is the kicker and why I believe this happened. It was a total out cross. Hybrids.
For guys that don't understand. Sometimes when heavy line breeding you got to go outside what you are hunting .Try to find a hound that compliments what you are currently hunting.
This helps invigorate the line. Then you cross right back into what you are trying to maintain. More often than not these litters will be above average if done correctly. But for the most part percentage wise they are not the reproducers their parents were. I know, I know, it sounds crazy . If it was easy we would all be hunting dogs capable of winning a world hunt.

I like what Richard said, Most talk about the papers and not about the Traits! It’s all about the Traits👍🏼
