I don't know what's available I'm sure someone has an opening in your price range. I feel sure you will be able to find something in Salisbury but if for some unknown reason you can't, I would go with Mocksville.

Hotels in Salisbury, NC. All within 4 or 5 miles from hunt.

Holiday Inn 704 637-3100
Days Inn 704 633-5961
Hampton Inn 704 637-8000
Quality Inn. 704 633-5777
Super 8. 704 738-8888
Affordable Suites of America. 704 636-7400
Executive Inn of Salisbury. 704 637-6726
Happy Travelers Inn Inc. 704 636-6640

Hotels in Statesville, NC. Maybe 15 miles give or take. Statesville and hotels off of I-40 from there you can take Hwy-70 turns into (601 Jake Alexander Blvd.) to the hunt in Salisbury.

Holiday Inn 704 878-9691
Best Western 704 881-0111
Days Inn 704 872-9891
Hampton Inn 704 883-8381
Quality Inn & Suites 704 878-2721
Red Roof Inn 704 881-2051

Hotels in Mocksville, NC. Probably 10-15 miles from hunt Mocksville and the hotels are also off of I-40.

Comfort Inn & Suites 336 751-5966
Quality Inn 336 751-7310
Highway Inn. 336 751-7060

most of those listed for salisbury are either full or charging ridiculous prices ($140 holiday). i had to go to lexington (15m) surrounding areas will be ur best bet. have heard that prices were jacked becuase ppl wanted to bring dogs in rooms..SETWA may have to think about location issues if the city that benefits from the millions of $$ that come into the city is going to treat visitors this way.

Not sure what the big deal is. It is a free market and the laws of supply and demand drive the prices. Hotels in such an area only have certain times of the year to "do really well" and if they do not get the best bang for their rooms, their yearly profit margins can be terrible.

I agree with intellectualist, Salisbury offers a great venue for this hunt it would be a shame to see it go anywhere. What..., you think that just because the hunt moves that other cities wouldn't take advantage of this? The big draws in crowds and of the number of people who will be traveling to this hunt will remain the same just like the number of people staying in motels will. Like intellectualist said no matter where the hunt goes it's a matter of supply and demand, prices will increase no matter the location.

Just be thankful that Salisbury is in such a centralized location with such a large number of other attractive choices and cities so close by. You can easily find a hotel elsewhere for less and the distance is probably no more than what most of us will travel to work everyday, ten or fifteen minutes max. Move the hunt and you might not even have that option! Besides the location is great as is, it offers a wide variation as to the people who are able to attend. It's pretty darn close to being smack dab in the middle of the state which gives the hunt itself a nice mix as to the kind of terrains that are made available. Those hunting and who live within a hundred miles are mandatory guides, that means you may go east as far as the coast or west as far as the Appalachian's. North as far as Virginia and south as far as South Carolina. Move the hunt you may not get to enjoy all those little things that makes this hunt great.

Excellent points. I am going to be driving 25 minutes from my room to the fairgrounds and do not see what the big deal is.

If anyone is interested we have an in-law apartment that we can open up for a group of people to say during WALKER DAYs.

We are about 20 minutes from the fair ground.
2 bedroom, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom.

We are Hound Dog friendly. Plenty of room to stake out dogs.
