Definition of Split Tree
What is the definition of a split tree?
Hunting in a cast last week 2 dogs were declared treed as we arrived the dogs were treeing on separate trees that were about 10 yards apart but the limbs obviously touched.
Do you treat it as one tree or go ahead and declare it as a split tree?
Any clarification would be helpful.
Thanks
If the limbs touch, it is all one tree.
One tree

That’s like saying dog trees a slick tree but limbs touch the next tree over and it has a coon in it most guys try to plus it what if there’s a possum or house cat next tree over that the limbs touch are you gonna minus them for it or just say circle it it’s a big leafy tree
Dennis that’s why they placed you by the owl. Being older and wiser than the rest of us
Rule says that if the limbs touch, it is all one tree. You don't change the definition based on what is or isn't in the tree.
Sir your correct wasn’t arguing just throwing out a what if

Just pullin some feathers but with that logic a dog could be freed on the east end of a hedge row that goes 150 yards to the west the coon could be 80 yards west of the dog and you’d still plus it if all trees touched. That’s a little out there
So now were plussing flying coons .....lol

If its 30 feet apart here 90% aren't gonna be touching! U gotta use common sense

Exactly the point I was trying to make there is a length limit and I personally think 10 yards is to far but it’s only my opinion not the rule
quote:if there not touching then it’s not considered same tree!! Not hard if limbs touch same tree how hard is it?

Common sense is lacking these days.
1st of all the “ judge “ needs to make the call if it’s one tree or split tree before scoring it . Accept his call or If not then call for a vote .

Oh my goodness, are you saying that even if the limbs touch, a coon might not be able to cross over? Or if the limbs don't touch, a coon might be able to cross over? This is another example of the rule leaving a lot of grey area to argue over. Wouldn't it be a lot more black and white if the rule said that if the trees have limbs that touch, it is scored as one tree.
I realize that UKC has left a lot of "interpretation" in the rules to give handlers the leeway to use "honor" and common sense. Now this is great theoretically and sounds good on paper but in the real world of comp hunting it causes a lot of problems.
Judges decision
Judges decision ! It takes a majority of the cast votes to over turn it .

I always like when people say "Just use common sense" That's like saying it's easy to knock a tree down on your property, just use your bulldozer. Not everybody has a bulldozer.
