Treeing Cur Problem

I've got a 10 month old Treeing Cur (about 60 percent Black Mouth Cur and 40 percent Redbone) who has a lot of smarts and hunt. Lately, though, he nips at me when I put the lead on him when he's on tree. I'm new to curs. Is this a common problem with curs? What can I do to correct it? I don't want it to get worse than a nip!

No problem

You can find that in any breed, no real big deal. Depending on the personality of your dog, if he's not fragile, wack him just hard enough to let him know its not except able. He may quit barking for a few seconds. Pet him up, get him treeing again, and while everything is still fresh on his mind, snap him and unsnap him a few times. It may take a few times but the issue will soon dissolve. Correction at the tree, is not ideal, but can and needs to be done at times. Use your head and always follow the correction up with positive reinforcement at the tree. It is better to have to issue 3 smaller doses, than one over the top round of discipline that results in major set backs. This is just my opinion, I am still learning from my dogs all the time. Good luck
