Buck

Nice looking hound, I like the way he is bred. Can you tell us a little more about him? Like mouth, how he hunts, track speed, ect.

There isn't too many flaws that I can pick out of buck. He's been a pretty good hound for me. When I cut him loose, he's going to be treed somewhere someway. I don't believe I can recall of a time where I've casted him and haven't treed.

He casts out hard and hunts hard. I've seen him tree 50 yards in front of me, other times I've seen him pick up his head and get out and cover some real estate.

His track mouth is a short bawl mouth. Doesn't say too little nor says too much. Gives just enough mouth and doesn't get bogged down. He is pretty good about getting under a coon in short time. he isn't the type that needs to stay on top of the beaten path, he will pick up his head and straddle. He is very hard to beat getting to the tree first. Throws a BIG one bark bawl locate. the kind of locate where you tree him off it. I've done it a lot in hunts with him. If he locates, start loading the clip. He is a 2nd strike, 1st tree caliber animal. Usually split treed 50-75% of the time. After he locates, he rolls into a steady chop and stays put. If he's 100% confident and locked down, he's locked down for the night.

He is really good about finding lay ups. Last night was the opening night of the 2015-16 NY hide season and he was doing more lay ups than driving tracks. We saw 7 coon in just over 2 hours. Just kept recasting along the edge of cornfields. Never did get more than 100 yards off the edge of the corn. Boom, boom. boom, locate, on to the next one.

Thanks

He sounds like a nice hound, keep us posted on the females you breed to him. I may be interested in a pup off the right female. Take care------Kenny Boggs--------

Nick, I agree with Kenny, he sure sounds like a nice package. Its getting harder and harder to find a hound that will honestly strike in the top two positions and tree in the top two positions. I too, like a lot of what is in his pedigree. Hope you get a good young dog out of him to keep the quality of hound you are used to.

That was a lot of coon you treed last year with him. Do you keep track of the number of nights you hunt as well?? I'm curious as to how many coons per night do you see on the outside, on average, over the course of the season??

How many nights per season do you usually get to hunt. You may or may not keep track of these type numbers but its something I like to do when hunting my dogs.

He suits me and what I like in a hound very well. I'm hoping I can find a nice female to breed to this winter. I'd like to raise a pup or two off him next spring. I always liked spring pups, seem like they grow better and take right off with the nice spring weather, and you got all year to prepare them for the upcoming hide season.

One of these days someone will peak interest and send their female this way

I don't normally keep track off how many nights, how many coons, etc. I just tally up at the end of the season. Most importantly is if I can get at least one young pup going good by the end of the season. if I can get at least one pup well started, then that keeps me busy in the spring singling that pup out when the kitten coons are active. Buck helps me out with the training part as well

Still filling in pieces to the puzzle. thought it was pretty neat to discover how much briar creek and Wilcox breeding Wildman Buck has on his bottom side.

Couple other discoveries I found was :
1.( DAM'S SIDE) NEUSE RIVER RAMBO's GREAT GREAT GREAT GRAND SIRE IS WORLD CHAMPION NITE CH 'PR' Vanzants Sam

2.(SIRE'S SIDE) GRNITECH PR CLARK’S RIVER MILLY's GRAND SIRE IS WORLD CHAMPION VANZANTS SAM

3. (DAM'S SIDE) GRNITECH GRCH PR WILCOX THUNDER BINGO'S GRANDSIRE IS WORLD CH GRNITECH Beshear's Blue Boy II

From what I can tell by looking at his pedigree, his breeding was no mistake. Doubling up on the Briar Creek Snake breeding on mothers side, and on the Fathers Side, Grand Sire Rocky Run Blue Terry has line breeding of Ike the lightfoot on his Top side, and Boyd's Little Joe line breeding on his bottom side

Now these are some slobs.

After hunting a young walker female and not getting anything treed after two spots, I went back home and swapped dogs and took Mr. Wildman Buck out for a few drops. 1st drop took him about 50 seconds to tree a big one off a creek bottom what seemed like 100FT up the tree. It was some real sharp shooting. Second drop it took him about a minute to chase up two big slobs off the edge of a standing cornfield. Buck is defiantly a layup specialist. Someone could really do some damage on coon #'s if he was hunted from dusk to dawn. I don't think he would ever get stop giving 100% no matter how many times he was cut loose

thank you Mr. Shores

I'd say the coons were ruttin last night for sure!

Last night they tried giving us the slip, but buck was hot on his tail. Hunted from the house last night and walked my fair share till needed to call for a ride. I didn't check the Garmin at the tree to see how far he went, but as the crow flies he went 1.3 miles from where he started his track. A lot of walking, calling dad for a ride at the end of the block, and some more walking. Was sure glad to see buck had a big boar sitting 15ft up a real old den tree. That ride home was sure needed. Two dogs and two guys in a single cab pickup that's a stick shift! Did happen to check it though when I got back home, and it was 6.94miles total.

You cant go wrong with lightfoot breeding. No matter how far the track or how crappy the weather is, lightfoot bred hounds will give 110% every drop.

Soon to be Wildman Bucks new castle. Weather permitting the last couple of things that need to be done. Dog run doors should be on by the end of the week, and that should wrap it up until spring when I can pour the drain in front of the runs and fix up the front with sod and grass seed

Temporarily had a few off breed pot lickers of mine in there testing it out. Lol When it's all said and done, I'll have them all setup in their runs living the high life. Building will be eventually insulated as well as the dog boxes with a thermostat . I like to believe the performance of a hound starts with their home and bed

I'm always finding new pedigree information that I can take and appreciate a little more for what I have in my kennel back home. Feels good to own something with a background of Hall Of Fame dogs that helped pave the way to Bucks success in the nite hunts.

Wildman Buck DIRECTLY has these Hall of Fame dogs below in his pedigree. With how he is bred, these Hall of Fame dogs show up on several occasions in his pedigree. If I was to account for relations to Hall of Fame dogs, he is related to roughly 30 total of the 56 Hall of Fame Males and Females from 1981-2014.

Little bit more work has been done to the kennel since my last update on here. Doors are on the kennel, and the middle section of the drain is poured. The inside could use another layer of flooring to give it a little more support. Now I just gotta find a place for all the trapping supplies on the far end.
