Most Famous Coonhound

Who is the most famous coonhound of all coonhound breeds. My choice is HOUSE"S LIPPER.

finley river chief started it all for the freeing walker... I've sat and listened to my grandpa many times speak very highly of ole' chief not only in the woods but as a reproducer. Jmo

MR Fryar are you calling these dogs tough as in coon dog tough. ole rat wasnt too tough as a coondog but the best reproducer this wolrd has seen yet. Lipper would be the most famous

I believe Rat Attack speaks out accross all breeds whether you like the walker breed or not because he has overdone himself as a reproducer of winners. JMO

Walker

hound that has played the biggest positive impact on your breed is in MHO Lone Pine Lady.. She can be found in a great multitude of TW pedigrees of the finest dogs in the breeds history.. She should be the most famous Walker.

Bluetick, Dave Deans original Hammer..

English, Hardtime Speck, really was a TW

This is almost a trick question.

Their are so many great hounds that contributed to their breed ,picking one is nearly impossiable.

I am going with TN Lead also. or Dan and Ann but there is two of them.

Posted by Chris Herring on 12-04-2008 02:34 PM:

The most famous was actually a pair of Redbone's named Old Dan and Little Ann, straight from the Book and Movie's. (Where the Red Fern Grows)

Many young people are given an introduction to our sport as a result of this book or movie. This is the only impression or connection that many people ever have with our sport. It's the reason alot of "newbie's" often choose a Redbone as their first hound...

I believe he was the PKC National Champion in 1984 or so.

I'd say the most famous is good ole "rat attack". If I want to see a slick treeing idiot I know where to go. Direct offspring or grandson or grandaughter, it doesn't matter, the slick treeing gene comes through with ole rat attack. I've seen it over and over and over. Oh yeah, and meanness too.

I agree there are a lot of people that don't know anything about coon hunting, but have either saw the movie or read the book, and therefore know about "Ole Dan & Lil Ann".

Your exactly right. Now THAT was a couple of coondogs. That's how coonhunting and coondogs is supposed to be.

I have to agree. There are many factors to be taken into consideration if this is a serious question and you want go give a serious answer.

Who is more famous?

Clark Gable

John Wayne

Lee Harvey Oswald

John Wilkes Booth

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt

Britney Spears

Barack Obama

All in their time were famous or well known. Who is the most famous of this list? I don't think that the question asked about coonhounds can really be answered. People are going to have their opinions and it will vary by their age and what they have experienced in their life.

I think it is a GREAT question, I just don't think there is a GREAT answer.

The MOST FAMOUS COONHOUND EVER,

has got to be Merchant's Bawlie. He won 2 World Championships, back when there were large turnouts at the Hunts. This was in an era when NEWS of a good coonhound didn't get around to all coonhunters like it does today, but yet probably every coonhunter of that time period had heard & knew of Merchants Bawlie.

As for the Treeing Walker Breed of best REPRODUCERS, I would say that it would be hard to leave Johnsons Banjo & Banjo II out of the mix. They put the TREE in the Treeing Walker Breed. I would say that well over 90% of todays Treeing Walkers have that blood in them? There were more TREE DOGS back then, then alot of you were led to believe, but the Banjo strain put the SLOBBER SLINGERS in the Treeing Walker Breed as well as other Breeds of hounds breeding to them also.

I will also say that there are well known coonhounds of EVERY BREED, whether registered or unregistered.
