Grand nite Champion Sioux Valley Jack

Grand nite Champion Sioux Valley Jack and Grand nite Champion Sioux Valley Sugar have a new home here at Texas Ridge. I have purchased Jack, Sugar and Sugar 2 from Ed Strum.

After hunting Jack and Sugar a few nights and can tell you they are everything Ed said they were.

I want to wish Ed the best in the road that lies ahead for him and thank him for selling me these hounds.

Thanks. Ron

Jack

Jack won his cast on Friday night at the zones but lost out on a tie breaker to make it to the finals. Last year Jack tied for the last spot for the Grand 16 at Autumn Oaks and lost the tie breaker. He needs one more cast win to qualify for the Tournament of Champions hunt. Maybe things will go our way next time. RT

Jack pups

The pups from the 3 litters we have here are doing very well at an early age. They were born, August 20th, September 8th, and September 11th. They were introduced to coon scent at 8 to 9 weeks of age and immediately went after it. They had a natural tendency to tree when the scent was raised above them. Now at 5 to 5 1/2 months they are ready to start working on turn loose.
There is 1 male pup that went to his new home at 3 1/2 months that is running and treeing his own turn loose at 5 1/2 months. The Gerth family from Dietrich Illinois own him ,and have done a great job bringing him to this point. Brody who's 11 and Briar who's 8 have given him woods and creek time along with laying drags most evenings after school. A special thanks goes to Ron for sending Doc over there to get them and there puppy started off right. Their Dad Cody, spent a lot of nights when he was young with me in the woods, and traveled with me to the Winter Classic and Autumn Oaks ,as well as The BBCHA spring hunt at Ashland Ohio. If I can figure out how I will post some video's of their pup in action. There is a post on my Facebook page of him treeing on the night he turned 5 months old, with Doc. In the comments I keep posting videos of his progress.

Well we got up to 4 degrees for a morning 🌡 here in the Hardwoods of the Heartland. We're headed to the Winter Classic this week and normally would be anxious to get to some warmer weather, but I looked at the weather forecast for Batesville, and it looks like it will be plenty cool there also. One thing about that though is we will all be hunting in the same conditions. Jack tends to be an adverse conditions type hound, hopefully the rut will have the coon down walking some. I've seen plenty of coon tracks on the snow today checking oil wells, and it didn't stop snowing till about midnight, so they moved good late here last night. See Yall this coming weekend. Dan

Newer Jet onto earlier Jet

Jack made a visit with Max Duniphan's fine female this weekend. She is a direct daughter of Jet V that was treeing her own coon at 8 months of age. This should be a nice cross. Pups from her earlier litters have made some top hounds. Can't remember her name but, can sure remember how she ran a track and treed coons when I hunted with her. Very nice female.

Update

We had a good time at the Winter Classic, we didn't get in either night but had some good casts and good sportsmanship. The only hunts we have entered Jack in this spring since the WC, has been the BBCHA sectional at Robinson Illinois. We fell short of winning King of hunt there but picked up 2 cast wins. The pups here from Jack are doing very well for their age, and reports from others from him are coming in that they are doing well also. He sure is a pleasure to hunt, and my wife and I are keeping him ready for the TOC. Due to her health after her battle with cancer, she isn't able to walk the whole way like she used to with me,but it sure is a blessing to have her as a truck person. Here in our country we mostly have mile square sections, so I can just keep sending him knowing she can come around and pick me and the dog up on the other side. Max let me know that his Jet lV female is showing, so we are looking forward to seeing what shows up out of that litter. Looking forward to hunting in the TOC we just need some breaks to fall our way. Catch Yall Later. DS

Congratulations

Congratulations to Woody Herron and Nt. Ch. Herron's Northern Blue Zuma on winning Queen of Hunt at the Dave Dean and Ed Mead hunt in Michigan. Zuma is from one of the earlier litters out of Jack and Gr Nt.Ch Souix Valley Sugar. His puppies here from the later litters are really doing well.
