"River Bend" Treeing Walkers

I have noticed and increase in the popularity of this strain of Walkers in the past year. I am very pleased to see that they are starting to shine once again. Many people have overlooked them in the past 10 years and I began to wonder if they would ever gain the popularity that they once had but thankfully people have once again realized what kind of dogs they really are and they have began hunting and promoting them once again. I hope they continue to grow because I feel they have alot to offer the Walker breed as we know it today.

Please add any comments on these dogs if you would like.

Also, if you have any pictures, post them also.

Her D.O.B was 07/14/1991 her sire was River Bend Spot his sire was CHGRNTCH 'PR' River Bend Flag . Spot's Dam was NTCH 'PR' River Bend Lady. Here is a picture of her pedigree...

Yes she was before... I got her she was bad on deer the guy sent her to Shaffers Training Facitily here in WV and had her broke for life. One night she ran up on one and you would have thought you hit her with a ball bat. The only complaint I could say about her she was a pacer would stay still . She was very hyper. But a tree dog and a coooooooooooon dog.... I hunt english now I have had some good Walkers but strickly English now... Don't get me wrong I will hunt them if a coon dog....

O yea. I believe that is the only fault Ive seen out of most RB bred walkers. Some tend to run deer when there young but once there broke you have yourself a mighty fine coondog.

River Bend Flag has been dead since 1988. Are there any grand-pups of his still living? If not how many of yall have dogs with Flag in there 3 generation pedigree?

Yea. From all the young dogs ive hunted with that were Flag bred I have seen most of em' run deer at a young age. However they would still tree you a sack full of coons. But once the deer are out of the picture you better hold on cause you've got yourself a COONDOG!

i have been in the river bend blood since i was 13 years old i am now 21 and i haven't seen a more accurate independent line of dogs. I really like how they hunt and can drive a track and have a coon most of the time. The coon waxer dog is prob the most heavy bred rb dog and ive liked most every pup ive seen out of him and have had the pleasure to hunt 2 in lots of hunts and won quite a bit with each. Im glad to see someone else taking an interest in this stock

I am also glad to see more people hunting and promoting these dogs. Hopefully people will continue to hunt them and start winning with them again. They are A1 dogs.

I had a nice dog back in 1997 that was a grand pup to Flag. He was the best young prospect I ever owned, well until recently. I never had any trouble with him on deer. Come to think of it, I don;t remember hunting with one that had trouble with deer. I believe your comment about them being prone or apt to run a deer at a young age could have more to do with their sire/dam than their grand-sire.

For the record, I am hunting a dog out of The Joker right now. Whitey all the way.

I never had the honor of hunting any pups direct off of Flag or Gr-pups of Flag. The ones I were refering to were the newer generation of Flag dogs that go back to Stylish Hickory Nut Harry. Not saying Harry is to blame because he isnt. Just saying that is the generation of Flag dogs I am refering to. Thanks

My point was that you can't say that young dogs that go back to Flag, are prone to run deer. Flag is so far back in most pedigrees that unless there is some serious line breeding going on, Flag's blood probably is not the cause of the deer running idiots.

Hey droop, not sure if you have looked, but check out worldclassbreeder.com and you might be able to see how many pups (at least that have been registered,) are showing in third generation.

I couldn't tell you who the dam was or even the sire on that young dog, heck it was nearly 14 years ago now, but I know Flag was on top and bottom in the 3 generation. I miss that dog. Died from a twisted gut.
