Interference

Coyote ran my dog out the tree right in front of us after the five was up and we had walked 400 yds shouldn’t that be interference?

Posted by Sonny Phipps on 06-15-2019 08:32 PM:

Unfortunately I think this just falls under “ a bad break”. Someone else may be able to give you a official ruling tho.

Sorry, but there is no mention of interference in the rule book. As the last poster said (bad break).

You have a slim shot at rule 7 (a) under Time Out if you can prove dog trailed into a place of danger. And then delete points by using 5 (g). 7 (a) is pretty open ended and includes danger to dogs and hunters but slim chance cast would vote for it unless a majority of dogs were there and if the dog(s) was in actual danger when it took place. If you can't get a vote for it it's one of those tough breaks as others mentioned.

So if a deer jumps up in front of a dog and he chases it a short distance it’s interference!

Posted by spencer smith on 06-16-2019 04:52 PM:

I understand

The deer but she didn’t run it and it came to her and I took as bad luck! Pat Keller just had male dog get crewed up by by coyote coming in to his tree had take him to the vet and it’s not my first time of this happening. What if it was farm dog would that change anything? This has happen to and they can be really mean?

Posted by Sonny Phipps on 06-16-2019 07:37 PM:

I understand your frustration and I actually have had to take a minus in a very similar situation. A lot of things happen out in the woods at night that are not “normal” and the rules can’t cover every single situation. The best thing about my situation was the coyote didn’t hurt my dog and I was able to just go to another hunt the next week and compete. Keep your head up and be positive for your next cast, the breaks will come your way.

Thanks! Happy Fathers Day!! I’m good with it just wondering why it wasn’t interference that all.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 06-17-2019 12:55 AM:

Not my reasoning but according to UKC, it isnt "interference" because that is a slippery slope. Pretty soon every time a dog left a tree the handler would start blaming coyotes, house dogs, wolves, mountain lions, bobcats etc.

Posted by Rip on 06-17-2019 01:00 AM:

I had to minus myself one night when my dog got tangled in loose barbed wire. She was a squall mouth dog and let out three or four squals, sounded a little different. She struck then started crying. After she was struck the cast could tell something was wrong and we went to her with the lights on. Saw her at the bottom of a tree tangled in barbed wire. She got loose when we got close to her and went on huntin. Minus. Just a bad break because you can't call interference.

Rules

Lol. These are the examples that cry for change to the rules. I sincerely do not think it was ever the intent if our rules to punish dogs for getting caught in hardwire, getting run off trees by cows or other animals. Where is the logic in any of these cases, now under the rules there are not any exceptions, but should be . Imo. Dave

Whoops, I forgot about cows. I bet that more dogs have been run off trees by cows than coyotes.

Don't forget about the jackasses Richard. They are a real danger to a hound, but are they really interference?

Every time we turn our dogs loose there is a chance it will be the last. That is where the coyote lives. Cows , jackasses might have been chased by dogs , coyotes an so forth. Fencing was already there . Just a bad break on things like that. People are more of a interference than anything. If a cast together would agree on things it would be a whole different story.

World Finals 2018

Similar situation went on during the world finals last year if you guys remember. One dog treed and the two caught it and it took some minus. Come to find out the tree was full of bees. Nothing you can do but shake your head!

Robert,

The real question here is are the jackasses wearing halters or carrying lead straps and garmins?

Oh my goodness, bees also. Just imagine how many claims of "interference" there could possibly be. Maybe UKC is right.

Posted by Redneck Mafia on 06-17-2019 05:18 PM:

They do have a rule for danger it's 7 (a) under Time Outs. The last part reads "or trail into a place where there is danger to dogs or hunters." If this happens you use Delete points 5 (g) If a Judge has to call time out in accordance with Rule 7. 7 (a) is left completely open ended and the last part is not refering to highways or posted land as they are specifically listed. This rule can be implemented by the non hunting judge or with a hunting judge by a majority vote.

That cost a young the world hunt in 2010 if I remember right. Jen I don't think you will get that to float with an MOH, being other animal of the forest. Down south we could call time out on every tree for interference along the river due to gators and snakes of all kinds. Sometimes its better not to open that can of worms and just move on.

It is not about getting it to float with a MOH. It is wrote for a cast or non hunting judge to make the decision of when there is danger or when someone is grasping at straws.

Dogs

Lol. Some comments are just plain ridiculous, I do not think anyone owns a dog that would stay treed when a herd of cattle come charging into that tree with blood on their minds. Where is the common sense in thinking a dog should never leave a tree for any reason? If a hunting cast can not be trusted to make the right call under those kind of circumstances how could that cast be trusted at all? Imo. Dave

Will not work, the dog was minus as soon as it left. You cant go back and unminus it after you vote to call time for danger.
