-- Proposal 5 - Leash-Locked (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928518552)

Proposal 5 - Leash-Locked

5. Leash-Locked.

• Option A: After 10 minutes of being leash-locked, handler may choose to recast dog or remain on leash while walking to dogs declared treed.

• Option B: Eliminate leash-lock rule altogether, unless all dogs are declared treed and cast decides to move to a new location after all trees have been scored. If cast decides to move, hunt time shall be stopped while walking to trees with dog(s) on leash. Hunt time shall be called back in during shining time only.

2019 UKC RULE PROPOSAL CLARIFICATIONS AND NOTES
Be advised, the following notes are the opinions/statements of those who submitted the proposals and may or may not necessarily reflect the opinion of UKC.

PROPOSAL 5: With some of the new format changes recently implemented, a lot of clubs are choosing the one-hour and 90-minute hunts. The pros of having dogs on the ground competing as much as possible is supported by many hunters. There are also times when you do need to be able to move locations. A couple options to consider in this proposal.

The first dog treed would be the only dog able to try and tree another coon in a 1 hour hunt if dogs are split which is what this rule is pertaining to.
Leave it alone.

Get rid of "leash lock" altogether....
In a 1 hour hunt why "leash lock" any dog ,for any amount of time or distance , wether split or gang banging ?

I drove 17 hours to a hunt. I spent 40 mins of the 2 hour hunt leash locked because a guy treed his dog that he claimed was “300” yards away. We then walked for 18 minutes to get to where we could hear his dog barking.

I drove 17 hours to try my dog out against some other good dogs not to walk my dog on a leash through the woods.

No leash lock sounds good till your hunting patch woods and gotta cut 2-3 times in same patch good way to get a dog killed and hard on guides around here

With Option A, handler doesn't have to recast his dog.. If he thinks the woods are too small he can keep him on the leash. With Option A you have the best of both worlds. However, I think that the time should be dropped to 5 minutes. But if you recast and the other handlers decide to call time out and move after scoring their tree, you had better be able to catch your dog.

I see nothing wrong with UKCs current leash lock rule. If we want to get rid of something it should be any hunt less than 2 hours.]

Hunted under a registry that didn't have a leash lock rule a few times and it was miserable. Dogs were constantly by roads and places that we didn't have permission to hunt.

That makes alot of sense. Or at least, only in hour hunts. Dead loners and a 4th strike first tree and could be beat by any dog with a coon. Handler has nothing to loose by cutting again. Except he is the only one out there to try to tree another one.

Option A... If you are walking between split trees, then you call time out after 10 minutes. So how would you recast a dog If you called time out?
