Was out hunting one night ( a thurs about midnight) , had just cut the dogs and was waiting for them to open. I see this guy in shorts , wayyyyy back in the woods come easing around trying to sneak past us on this field road. I kinda hissed at my husband to take notice ( as you can guess it was odd) . We shined our lights on him , he made it a point to look at the ground, stammered he was from St Louis and was out looking at the stars. He went off down the field road. My husband ( whos a tall fellow an can WALK when he wants to ) was worried about the truck being unlocked. He followed the guy around the little bend 100 yards or so away and hollared back , he's GONE! We heard no car doors or anyone leaving. I walked around the rest of the draw and here about 50 yards from where we were was a lumpy blanket. Great I thought. We called the sherriffs dept. They came out and looked around , took our statements etc. We seen the "evidence" Naked pictures of women of all ages from pregnant to granny. He had cut off their faces in the pictures and made holes where the mommy parts were supposed to be , and smeared red marker ketsup , blood ,SOMETHING over their OTHER mommy parts. A sherriffs dept psyc. guy said alot of killers will re-enact a murder at the area it was done. NO trace other than this stuff and PLENTY of "dna" was ever seen or found. Creepy. We now carry a small hand gun where ever we go

Casino's encounter would be frightning. I have walked into meth labs while hunting. They are everywhere around here. We are not allowed to carry a gun while coonhunting in Illinois in the summer.

I was about 12 or 13

and a friend of mine and I took my dogs up the path behind her house on horseback freecasting for bobs. This was well after dark and we had taken off on the logging road below her folk's place. We were looking for the cat that was killing her mom's chickens. The dogs struck and went up a trail and treed not to far from the top of the knoll. I had a little bluetick pup that was dumber than a box of rocks and all she cared about was food. When we got close to the knoll ridge I heard her chompin on something about 20' into a little orchard. When I went in to get her there were 4 headstones and one of the graves was about half a foot lower than the rest of the ground. That was it and I was done with that place. Went back the next am after daylight and got my two dogs and NEVER EVER hunted Brinson's Hollow again. (However I got drunk there probably dozens of times in later years as it was a hot area party spot).

I heard all the strange stories about this place and when Beth told me the name of it I about crapped my pants. I think that was the LONGEST horse ride I ever took. Growing up next to a cemetery was one thing, crawling around on all 4's as a 12 YO trying to get through the brush and running head first into a 3' headstone in the middle of the night when the only other person there is a female friend that was 2 years older is another. As far as I was concerned that blue pup coulda choked on the old bad of Fritos she had found by the graves. I was not going no further, lol.

Very Young Scare

At the age of 11 or so I was hunting a late fall night you know the type night....... it was a cool rainy pitch dark night, and just right close to Halloween, and of course the ghost were stirring just the same as Santa will be here at Christmas. I was hunting with my neighbor, and Dad over in Russell County County about 25 miles from my old home place on Rocklick Creek in Pulaski County Kentucky near Somerset . Well at this time in my life I hadn't seen anything outside my little world that being my home, my school, and the work on the old farm, and an occasion of getting to go to the old country store for groceries, and if we were luck we got a ball of Bazooka Joe bubble gum the comics on the wrapper of this gum was a little character called Joe anyone remember that ? Anyway back to the hunt and a scare of my life. At this time about the only thing I had ever seen were chickens, cows, hogs, horses, and mules. This night really put a scare in all of us my Dad, Ralph Mofield, and myself. We had dropped, Ole Bob, Blackie, and Yogi in a deep hollow to go find Mr Ringtail.....all these dogs were solid black Bob, and Blackie were unknows, but Yogi was a suppose to be Plott no papers, but he was a beautiful hound........Were they any good ???????? NO .......but we enjoyed them because this was all we had.......We were standing there and all of a sudden we hear this mournful scream cold chills runs down my back, and a few other places in about 2 to 3 mins. another scream, and by now we all are scared....At this time we have no idea as to what this was, and did not care to find out several other screams come in about 20 mins, and then Ole Bob strikes a track in the direction we come into this holler, and I for one am ready to start toward Bob. Blackie, and Yogi put in with him, and the race is on. Well here I am, and not knowing a lot about coon hunting or a dog I just know they are running a coon. Time goes by, and the dogs are making circles, and I ask when will they tree this coon my Dad answers he doesn't think this animal will climb a tree, and I ask quickly what they are running a fox my Dad says, and right away I say you ought to kill those dogs.......you see I started young in saying what I believe........Anyway we didn't hear this scream anymore that night, but returned to hear this scream that we thought was a woman a lot of times........After a few months went by we found out that a guy had peacocks, and that a peacock was making this lonesome sound at night.......Bob, Blackie, and Yogi didn't ever make coon dogs per say they were hounds that would run anything, but how I treasure the memories of these dogs of the past, and the times with my Dad coon hunting at night.....Very few coon we seen with these dogs, but in my heart they will remain as my friends, and my friend Ralph Mofield spent a many night in the woods with them...... following them........hoping to see a coon, a possum......no skunks............

A local drunk was always after me to take him coonhunting but I always made an excuse because I didn't believe in mixing drinking with hunting.Everytime I saw him which was about twice a week he would get after me to take him hunting so one night I gave in and took him along. He was falling down drunk, had no light, and I couldn't hear the dogs for him mumbling constantly between long drags on his Jack Daniels bottle. The dogs had treed in a huge Pecan tree out in the middle of this cemetary and I headed in there to check the tree, after about ten or fifteen minutes I leashed the dogs and started back out.I kept hearing this moaning sound out in the cemetary and finally came by a newly dug grave and there lay the drunk in the bottom of the grave.I couldn't get him out so I left him there and went to the truck and went to sleep. The next morning I went to see if I could get him out of the grave and when I got close I could hear him groaning and mumbling so I hid behind a grave marker to see what he'd do.He finally raised up in the grave holding both sides of his head because of a bad hangover. He finally began to look around and got real quiet and slowly dropped his hands from each side of his head while he continued to look slowly all around. His mouth was hanging open and his eyes were bugged out as he realized where he was. After a few minutes he said "Well Glory Be! Resurection Day and I'm the only one that made it"

Lights

I seem to notice bright lights in the sky at night, as in air planes or choppers. They seem to move, when i drive across a pasture field late at night, as in big brother is watching, from the sky. I don't like the feeling of haveing somebody looking over my shoulder and i really never noticed, them before 9-11, but i do notice them now.

Cant remeber if I posted this before or not. I took a little walker female out by herself one night, kind of breezy, she was about 9 months old never treed in her life. When I turned her loose I got that something aint right feeling. I figured she would be back in a minute and I would load up and go home, of course she went to treeing and I did not want to go in there, but I new I had too. When I got there she was up a leaning tree, it was good and green, kind of fell over on some other trees. I bent over and went under it to leash the dog, stooped down and got back on the other side. About the time I got her on the same side as me this pretty big leaning tree came crashing down, If it would have happend a few seconds earlier I would have been penned, or killed. But that wasn't all. About that time my light quit, when that happended I took off draggin my poor little female, not looking back till I busted in the opening. I forgot to mention that was on a Sunday night, the last Sunday I ever hunted. That little female went on to make the best dog I ever raised and we treed countless coons in those woods and nothing like that ever happended again.

Hey Redtick,

I saw that "Ball of fire", moving across the sky, with a rooster tail of sparks trailing it, about twenty odd years ago, all the way up here in Indiana. Did`nt shake me too much, but the next day, I read in the paper, that it was a Russian satlelite returning into the earth`s atmosphere. Sure was a phenomenal sight.

Jimmie sounds like my cat encounter.

I wasn't coon hunting but fishing. I was sitting on a creek bank bream fishing when I heard some crows raising sand in the field behind me. I didn't think much of it just kept my eyes open to see what they were up to. Whatever they were harassing came my way and I heard something come down the bank near me. Then I saw it, a small bobcat. It was on the path I was on and came to within 30 feet before it realized I was there. I thought this was neat to have such an up close look at a critter you never see that often. Well the cat realized I was there and froze in place staring at me, I didn't move a muscle. I guess the cat didn't know what I was because it crouched down and a look came into it's eyes and the tail began twitching. I've seen that look before, when a house cat pounces on a mouse. That scared me. I jumped up and hollered. That poor cat like to have had a heart attack trying to get gone. It still spooks me thinking about the way it looked at me like I was on the menu.
