Brand new Competition hunter vlog. Start 4/9/2021

Hey guys my first UKC hunt is tonight at Perry County Redbone hunt. Gonna tell ya what i learnt along the way, the good and the bad. Also what gear I'm using and what to expect for other new comers.

I'm 40 yrs old hunting a 2yr old pleasure dog deluxe, not sure how good a competition dog he will be. He trees me coon every night, we running Dogtra pathfinder, big dog genesis light.

Right off the bat the couple guys i know hunting tonight have answered a ton of questions for me. They are excited for a new guy to start hunting UKC hunts. Not sure if its because im easy fish right now or just new guy at the club,lol.

Good luck tonight, but the main thing to remember is have fun, call your dog for what it does, ignore what the other dogs are doing, just concentrate on calling your dog. Do not get caught up in thinking you have to beat some other dog or handler, just pay attention to your dog when you strike or tree, patience is the key.i never worry about the other dogs or other handlers, just my dog. If your dog performs well, you do not want to lose any points from a bad call on your part. Just imagine you are hunting by yourself with your dog alone and call you dog for what it does. First the bad, vendors with all kinds of coon hunting stuff. Spent my hard earned money last night. Note to self bring less cash. Lol

When we got there they helped me get signed up, me and my son never felt like outsiders. Very nice people, guide was super nice. They told what I should of and shouldn’t have done as Hunt went along. They explained why calls were made and what all the timers meant. Guys it was a blast. Came down to the last drop. .

It’s always fun when you win, got my first cast win with my Black and Tan, Whiteboy +100.

I’m hooked that’s for sure we are hunting Saturday nights hunt as well. Thanks guy for all the good luck wishes. Hope to see y’all at a hunt so I can put faces to names.

Saturday's hunt was just as much fun great guide and great judge. We finished second in cast with + points. If you've never been I'd recommend giving it a try. Are you gonna lose, yes even the best lose. Are you gonna make mistakes calling your dog and take minus, yes... ...yes you are.

If you love coon dogs and talking coon hunting man you need to try it. I'm sure there was a few knuckle heads there but we found some good guys and hung out with them.

Ask question that's the best advice I can give. Ask why they are making the calls they do, and at the end of the hunt go over it with them. Don't be afraid to tell them your new, go to learn and not to win. Both our cast were more then helpful.

You sound like the kind of hunter everyone wants to hunt with. Keep having fun, the wins will come. Dave

Thanks Dave, it was cool to get my son out from the tv he's 12. As soon as the first hunt was over, he asked if they have youth hunts. Thats a plus too, way to much video games, he got a new coonlight out of me on Friday. I think both of us are hooked, can't wait for the next hunt!!!

Glad to hear that both you and your son had a good time. Reminds me of my younger days when I went to every hunt around a 100 mile radius of my home. These hunts are just as much fun as you allow them to be, most folks but not all are very nice sand make these hunts enjoyable. Never let a few bad apples spoil your whole barrel. I met many friends at the hunts that I would never have known if I did not go to those hunts. Best wishes in every hunt you attend, something tell me you won't need much luck. Dave
