Went coonhunting for the first time
I went coonhunting for the first time last night and had such a blast. Even saw a redbone barking on a tree and we shined it and there was a big ol coon up there it was awesome. Now I gotta convince my parents to let me get a dog, they’re not too big on the outside dog thing though. I gotta try to build a kennel, it was such a fun night though
First time
Sounds like you might be hooked now . You can build a pen pretty cheap if you do it yourself . I am wondering who had the redbone I know most everyone that hunts them here in Florida . Look online for cheap pen builds get ya an idea off the ground is best here cause of fleas . Stay at it with enthusiasm and determination and I'm sure your parent's will notice the effort .

It was actually the Hunt directors redbone I think he technically won his cast not 100% sure though I don’t quite understand how the hunts work with points and all. My parents might only let me get a dog if I have him inside the house, I’ve heard mixed opinions on that though. What do you guys think about that?
What club did you go to ? You can have an inside dog and tree coons with it . Patience and consistency and you'll be alright .

It was mr bellemore he was really nice I think you’re right I remember him calling him John. I think they got another hunt in March I’d like to go to that one I’m trying to get my parents to take me to a hunt again next weekend but it like 3 hours away so I don’t know about that one but I’m antsy I wanna get a dog and go coon hunting again
We keep our dogs in, I don't see that it's a big factor in the way they hunt. Too bad you don't live closer, I have a male Redbone pup for sale.
Yong hunters
I don't know about the rest of the old timers on this page but just hearing about this yong man's hunt gets my batteries charged up about hunting. keep it up just remember it's not all peaches and cream but it's worth it..if you ever get up to KY you have a place to hunt
Rex Ridge/Chainsaw
I think my parents are saying the only way they’ll let me get a coon dog is to keep em inside like a family dog, which is a big improvement from not letting me get one at all with already having 2 dogs. My one fear is that I’ll get too attached to the dog and it’ll get hit by a car or i don’t know something might happen and that would be terrible. Not sure if it’s a legit concern.
I was unsure if I’d like it cause everyone who doesn’t coon hunt was like why the heck would you wanna do that and I didn’t really have an answer I just really wanted to but man it’s a lot of fun I like just bein out in the woods and at night it’s real cool and then you can hear the hounds and we were waiting to see if they striked or got treed so it’s almost like fishing in that aspect like waitin for a bite I love that. Thank you for the invite that means alot
Hunts
Peter look into PKC hunts too . They happen more then once a month they do several in Scottsmoore it'll give ya more experience and help you know what to look for in a dog .

In or out, you'll get attached to it. It's a chance we take to do something we and our dogs love to do. We try to stay away from the roads and use Garmin collars.
Congrats on the first hunt. I'd say we all remember our first.
If you want to know how much money you will spend, all of it. 😉
Enjoy the new thrill

I was looking at some of the other clubs hunts and most of em are on weekdays so when they’re like a couple hours away it’s pretty hard to get up there with work the next day. Found one on a weekend I think the weekend after next but it’s like 4 and a half hours away so I’ll have to see maybe if they got a weekend one that’s not so far
Rex ridge that’s a good point
Black label I’m already bugging my parents a ton about getting me a dog and then I gotta get some chaps and gear I didn’t think it’d be so expensive LOL
You don't need all that, some of my best times was with a cheap light and a decent dog. Buy yourself an older dog and enjoy it. Pups are headache and heartache, but sometimes it's worth it.
