Price of hunts next year
So after talking to everyone this weekend have some questions about what we are going to charge next year for entry fee. What is everyone else charging at their club for the entry fee now that UKC has went up on price per dog?
This year we charged $15 per dog. But that's not going to work for next year.
$15 x 7 dogs= $105
-$25 Ukc licence
-$49 (7 dogs @$7) Ukc fee
-20 conservation permit
-25 for building
Puts the club -$14 if my math is right.
So what are most clubs going to charge? If we charge $20 per dog at the 7 dogs that puts the club making $21. Is that enough? Do other clubs figure more than 7 dogs? Or higher fees?
We are going to charge $35 a round in double header mini slams that pay the hunters back.

to be clear

35.00 sounds good for a mini slam hunt, at least you have a chance of winning something for your entry fee besides UKC cast wins. Winner winner, chicken dinner. Dave

I can't bring myself to pay for the 1 hour double header hunts. $30.00 for a one hour hunt?????? It is too steep for me! I restrict myself to $600.00/month. That includes all my gas, dog feed, vet bills, and other various expenses. Oh I only get paid on the last working day of the month. Budgeting is the only way I can get from one month to another.
I expect the IRS to figure out about the money hunts sooner than later. Yep, I really want to have to claim my hobby as part of my IRS bill.

$25 license fee plus $7 per dog(assuming that is correct) has made the $15 hunt obsolete. Obviously UKC is not going to dip into their profits and the clubs can not and remain viable. That leaves the hunter to fund his endeavors. I will say for most clubs with the size of the average hunt the fees are out of line. UKC will boast about big money pay outs. All this is on the shoulders of the clubs who will have to pass it on to the hunter. As the old saying goes, the buck stops here. That has to be the hunter.

MY building is free and I will have a bench show I am the judge so that’s free. If I get 4 dogs on the bench it pays my hunt packet. That’s why clubs need a licensed bench show judge. We charge $15 for the bench show that’s $60. I haven’t seen the paper work on the minie slams yet we held off till after the 1rst of the year where the guys wins would count to get them qualified for the $200,000 hunt and they get to hunt under the new rules.

Theres something else going on.
Assuming a $25 entry fee!!!
PKC has 60% in awards, 20% for the club, 12% PKC, 8% Escrow. That's $5/dog for the club.
UKC, under this scenario, if they match the participant awards of PKC would be giving 60% in awards, 12% to the club, and 28% to UKC. That's $3/dog for the club. That's 40% less for the clubs (the backbone), assuming no escrow.
AKC offers 70% to participants, 30% to clubs (but after accounting for their per dog fee), it's really 16% to clubs, and 14% to AKC. That equates to $4/dog for the club.
All of these scenarios exclude licensing/event fees.
Why (if you are UKC) would you present clubs with scenarios of making 40% less than they would with PKC, and 25% less than they would with AKC???
So, from a club perspective, it's:
$3/dog UKC
$4/dog AKC
$5/dog PKC
I'm sure UKC is aware of the competition, and what they offer.
Something doesn't smell right!
There are better ways to take on the competition.
I am just giving the guys what they want. I can have the minie slams and pay them that night or I can have a regular hunt and save up and give it back to them later. As long as we got enough left over for a pot of red beans or chili anything over that is a bonus.
Tar
Pkc 1 hr hunts are $30 and more hunters attend them than $20 ukc hunts around here. If you can’t afford to pay another $5-10 for a chance to win your money back, maybe this sport isn’t for you.

Does the new $7 fee to UKC apply to bench show entries too? So, your $60 for 4 dogs would then be only $32?
At my club we have been charging 10.00 for the bench show & 20.00 for the hunt. On our Sectionals, we charged 15.00 / 25.00.
We have decided to increase entries by the extra 5.00 that UKC is starting in 2020.

Already alot of talk around here about going pkc. Guess run the numbers and see. If there's enough people for it Ukc may take a back seat. Rules vary but same principal strike and tree your dog, right?
