Can I register my dog with the UKC even though her parents aren’t registered?

Hello,

My name is David and I’m very much interested in dog shows. I’ve recently received my first dog and would love to get involved with confirmation and agility. However, my dog’s parents were not registered with UKC and neither were her grandparents or any other ancestors.

I’ve contacted the UKC customer service line and they did not give a direct answer. So if anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

What breed of dog is it? And how old is the dog?

Posted by Luna_lover on 05-18-2018 01:33 PM:

She’s a chihuahua and four months old.

In order to register your dog with us it would first have to be registered with one of our approved registries. These registries include the American Kennel Club, the Canadian Kennel Club, The Kennel Club of Great Britain or any FCI (International) registry. You can however, do a Performance Listing registration with us which would allow your dog to compete in all of our events except confirmation and you would not be able to register any litters produced by this dog with us.

I live in America so I know AKC would be best. However, I believe you have to spay your dog and I do not want to do that (and that’s not because I want to breed her). Is there an alternative?

The Performance Listing registration that I mentioned in my last post would be the only other option you would have. Again the dog would be able to complete in all of our events except confirmation and you would not be able to register any litters out of the dog with us.

It’s fine, I just want the option not to spay to her. Thank you so much!

You're welcome. Have a great day!

One more quick question, doesn’t the UKC do DNA tests to see if your dog is a purebred to even consider your dog for the confirmation shows?

Posted by Russell Smith on 05-18-2018 01:57 PM:

No. We only do DNA testing to verify if the dog is out of the parents it's said to be out of. To do that we have to have the dog's DNA on record as well as both suspected parents' DNA.

Aw, okay.
