One last run for Wildman Buck and I

Going to end our 2016 Competition Hunt season at the New York State Hunt in two weeks. Then it's time to single the pups out in the hide season.

Couple more days till NYS State Hunt

First drop he went over 700 yards and treed on our neighbors property. Ofcourse the tree he was on had to be the thickest rose brush jungle I ever walked in. And the tree was soo thick, I could just barely sneak a finger in to grab his collar and pull him out and away. he had a big coon up.

2nd tree treed on this big monster. Couldn't see that well

No luck at NYS Hunt this past weekend

Buck had the win in the bag, but a handler error on the first tree cost us the win. Buck had first strike and the three dogs moved it a ways away. Two dogs called treed and it just didn't sound right. Every other minute they would shut up for about 30secs. Tree time ends up closing, and upon walking in Buck starts treeing hard in the same general area. Should have held my tongue but I treed buck, maybe he would be under Mr. Rickey a few trees over sitting pretty. Dogs ended up all being under the same tree which was slick in a grape vine area with one dog leaving the tree. Buck took 125 minus, then another 75 minus for next available position. Then his 100 strike got misused as well. What the fudge haha walker male that left the tree withdrew, so now down to a two dog cast.

2nd drop
Buck had 1st and 1st I believe and had a coon all by himself in nasty thick cut over buck brush field. Treeing on a shrubby pine tree in the middle of that mess. I seen the coon with my red lens, but nobody else wanted to. Burning the tree down on white lens was more important I guess. The coon stopped looking. 10 seconds left on shine time walker male gets called treed and leash locks me. Walking in the walker male shutup for two minutes and got his 125 minused, but we could see his collar blinking at the base of the tree, not sure what he was doing. he barked again and I cut Buck loose and from that bark he was re-treed so I was shut out on strike. Buck struck in for 75 with a line and 2nd tree. They had a coon up. So now I went from 300 minus, 225 circle... to 225 minus, 225 circle. Still not pretty but making a tough comeback haha

3rd drop..33mins left
Buck had 1st and 1st off the edge of a cornfield. He had a coon up and was sitting pretty treeing by himself for 225+ added to our rough score. Again, either bad luck or slick handler,that walker male once again got treed during my short shine time and I got leash locked. Alot of hunt time was used up shining that giant hemlock. Circled the walkers tree. With 4mins left of hunt time left, we cut both dogs. Buck struck first, then shortly after hunt time ended. Our rough score went from 225 minus, 225 circle...... to 0, 225 circle. Walker male ended with 125 minus, and 225 circle

I was disappointed, but I tried to look on the brighter side of the hunt. Buck split treed twice with 1st and 1st and had a coon both times. And covered once on a coon for 2nd tree, with unfortunate deleted strike. It's just the nature of the beast. Takes more than one person to see coon eyes. But all before that, it all came down to the first tree. I knew tree time was closed and I treed buck split. Odds didn't work out in my favor on that chance.

We got home at 6am and I layed my head down at 6:15am and had to be up at 7:30am for a First Time Homebuyers Class that went till 4:30PM. If we were on the road by 5:15PM, we would have gotten to the hunt at 7:30PM with a 8pm deadline. I'm always up for anything when it comes between Wildman Buck and myself. Our odds of overall winner were most likely out the window with no plus points on the first night. And 1st place GRNITECH plague was still up for grabs since we were the only grand night cast. Pretty good chance we would have been hunting against the same dog on the second night, just the two dogs unless a different bird showed up to play. But I told my dad that even though running on 1 hour of sleep and was ready to hit the highway for Round 2, Wildman Buck had nothing more to prove to me..... He is what he is.

West Valley was Saturday night with a 2am deadline. We hunted 6:45Pm-12:50AM and hauled butt to west valley and just barely made deadline. I won heaviest single, and heaviest 3 combined. I won $500 for the single, and $250 for the combined 3......clocks went back at 2am which is an odd time to go back, so we got home at 3am when in reality it was more like 4am, we took our two blue pups to two spots and got back in at 5:20AM. Almost went bow hunting, but my pillow was sounding better....Albion's weigh in was noon-4pm on sunday. So we took what we had and won albion too. heaviest single, heaviest 3 combined @70lbs, and my little brother won youngest entry with heaviest coon @20lbs I think. so $750 + $360= $1110 weekend! Shoulda teamed up with me instead of hunting with those Mennonites haha

Yes.

The way I have it set up now is (3) 4x10 runs, and buck is in a bigger pen on one end. I took the panel out of two runs to make a 8x10 run for him. Then 3 log cabin dog houses that are not in use anymore since I moved hounds into the kennel.

I can switch a pup out on a dog house and put Annie on opposite end of the kennel from Buck or add back in that panel I took out. i can lock the storm doors so they can stay out on the concrete too...either way we'll make it work
