Friday Bench Show Judge

Hannah Freymiller was born and raised in Southwestern Wisconsin. She grew up raising and training hounds, mules, and horses. She spent her school years near Mineral Point, graduated high school in Livingston, Undergraduate School at UW Platteville, and finally graduated UW Madison in 2013 as a veterinarian. Dr Freymiller enjoys her days as part owner of a mixed-animal practice in Prairie Du Chein. She enjoys everything outdoors, but especially fishing, hunting, riding her mules, and caring for her beef herd. Hannah has been actively hitting the show circuit since she was just 6 years old and has been the Chair of the Water Race and Field Trial Committees for the Heartland Classic for many years. We are excited to have Dr Hannah Freymiller serving as the Friday Bench Show Judge this year and consider ourselves quite fortunate to have her always-positive presence with the Heartland.

Saturday Bench Show Judge

Corey Gruver, though not a local, is no stranger to the Heartland Classic. Having previously served as a UKC Field Operations Director, Corey was a knowledgeable resource, a great hand at the event, and a surprisingly good cinematographer too. Corey grew up in PA and was introduced to the hound world at an influenceable age. He was hooked early on, and we’ve seen him leading nearly all breeds into the winner’s circle for both hunt and show, though Redbones seem to be a favorite. While his love for all things related to coonhounds is hard to miss, few know Corey’s true passion, a dedicated chicken farmer. While not in the woods, he is certain to be found in the yard leading a flock of clucking hens. We are excited to have Corey back to visit this year, and especially pleased he will be serving as your Bench Show Judge on Saturday.

Should be some big scores, Cool weather, late spring not many leaves yet and the coon are moving!

Pretty safe bet the 4 wheeler crosses the Mississippi going home again!

Posted by Allen / UKC on 05-10-2019 06:52 PM:

You boys better focus on hunting first, before you worry about the Mississip or the Four-Wheeler. Besides, I heard Corey Gruver took it out for a spin this morning and he hasn't been seen or heard from since. Somebody keep an eye on the Toll Road!

Nice job Erika on the profiles. Good luck everyone!

Redbones

I only know of 2 cast winners both red dogs from Alton/ Shane breeding with like 450+ scores. Trouble Maker won our cast. Nice dog with best mouth I've heard on red dog in a long time, since hunting with some of Hennings' old dogs. Take care, Ron.

Facebook

All winners may be listed there by now, but I don't have it. Just started txting 3 years ago. If you find list there, post on here to save Erica the hastle of doing it. Take, Ron.

Nick Koch and his 18 month old Daisey female won the 4 wheeler. She looked really good this weekend. I'm very proud of them

FINAL FOUR PLAY BY PLAY

PLAY BY PLAY
Our Final Four was made up of the four cast winners with highest combined score.
Cast included:
Slammer, O: Felderman H: Spautz with 1125+ combined score
Bones, O: Mott H: Stratil with 1075+ combined score
Daisy, O/H: Koch with 850+ combined score
El Chapo. O/H: Wes Gilroy with 600+ combined score

After two long nights of hunting and competing, four hounds and their handlers saw their hard work pay off, and were rewarded with an appearance in our 2019 Heartland Classic Final 4! Judging our final round was Jamie Swan, and once again, Donnie Lydic graciously guided us to his tried-and-true final round slice of heaven. Several trucks made up the early morning caravan that traveled to the woods. Most of which, only to listen to what turned out to be one of the most action packed final rounds in recent Heartland memory. The dogs were lined up and cut loose at 3:05am. Daisy started the action by striking for 100, Bones 75, Chapo 50, Slammer 25. Not long after, Daisy was treed for 125, followed by Bones for 75. The coon was scored quickly, plus up Daisy and Bones. Next up, Slammer was treed just 10 yards away. While walking to his tree, the handlers decided that you can’t score points with your dog on the leash and recast Daisy and Bones. Arriving at Slammer’s nearby tree, they found that Slammer had one of his own and plussed him up as well. After scoring, Slammer was recast and struck for 25, and the stationary was started soon after. Daisy struck back in for 25. Chapo made his way to his destination, and was called treed for 125. On the way, Bones was struck back in for 25. While walking to El Chapo’s tree, it was determined that Slammer could not be judged accurately and his stationary was broken. Wasting no time, little Daisy was treed again for 75, believed to be with El Chapo. While the cast continues to move in the direction of the treed dogs, Bones is treed in for 125, and Slammer treed for 125 as well. When the cast got closer to Daisy and El Chapo, it was discovered Daisy was split, she moved up to 125. El Chapo’s tree was circled, and the cast moved on to score Daisy. Daisy’s tree has a hole in it, and the cast peeks in to see a littler of kit coon. After plussing her up for 125, the cast moved on to score Bones’s tree and found that he had the evidence as well! Add 150 to his tally! That leaves all the dogs on leash as they walk down to Slammer’s tree. Slammer made a mistake on this tree, costing him 150-. And with that, the time ran out on the final 4 of the 2019 Heartland Classic and left Daisy victorious with a final score of 375+, followed by Bones with 300+, El Chapo with 150 circle, and Slammer with 0. A total of 4 coon were scored in the witching hour of 3 am, making this one of the most exciting Final Four casts yet! This is a great cast, seeing a couple of new faces in Nick Koch and TJ Stratil. Tim Spautz was a returning Final Four contender, having placed in 2018 as well. It was great to see such a young little dog do so well, the Heartland Classic being her first UKC hunt. With this pair being so new to us, they were also nominated for and won the Rookie of the Year award, CONGRATS TO NICK AND EVERYONE IN THE FINAL FOUR! Thank you for competing, and for your sportsmanship.
