I'm not sure bout the dog food & I live here in Missouri,,,but I can tell ya that I saw some dogs a few weeks ago & wow did they look good & slick & I asked him what he feed & he said hunters blend 26/18.... Sure has me thinking bout trying it & at a real good price.....I have read all the post & the lack of vitamins is a concern....I may make a trip & will tell u all what I find out....

With the constant rising prices of the Sportmix and Diamond at my local feed store that I've been feeding, I'm going to give it a whirl. Few dollars cheaper a bag doesn't sound too bad as long as it keeps meat on the dog's bones.

I went back to Sportmix. Gave 5 bags a chance for 4 dogs and they were crapping way more than they ate, and were getting pretty skinny. WIth cold temperatures approaching, I made the switch back and have had little clean up and much healthier looking dogs.

hunters blend dog food

looks like some of you need to know more about ingredients.

Poultry by-product meal. This product comes from packing houses that process chickens or turkeys. The product is cooked and made into a powder that has a good smell and dogs and cats are attracted to it. In order to qualify to be called " poultry by product meal" it must contain no less than 62% protein and of that no more than 1% can be feathers. (according to department of agriculture rules). It normaly will be about 5% calcium and 2.7% phosphorus which is a perfect balance for building strong bones in dogs because it comes from ground bones. I challenge any one to show me a better ingredient or pet food including fish meal (heavy metals) or egg product (salamenella), also research by the university of Illinois and Iams show wheat flour to be 80+% digestable by dogs. The reason I know this is because I do this for a living.

as far as i am concerned the farther down the ingredient list CORN is, the better the food is for your hound, and the first ingredient should always be a meat based such as (poultry or poultry byproduct). the main thing you have to watch for is the protien content and crude fat content , when you are hunting hard and the weather is cold. make sure you have a well balanced mix and YES all dogs are different just try and see you can always switch back.

I know alot of people that feed hunters blend ...dogs do look slick & healthy on it But one thing some people don't think of is the nutritional value of higher priced dog food & the added performance with food lke Victor & Pro Plan dogs don't get as winded (guys feeding the whatever brands think the weathers to hot or to high of protien in the dog food that's why my dog is panting so hard when I'm leading him off the tree,no it's much of the time the inferior dog food they are feeding) Quality foods are very high in protien ,nutritional value , added vitamins and assist in CO2 turnover rate ...When everyone elses dog is ready to lay down & be done mine's ready for the late round ! You don't need to think oh it keeps him fat so he must be healthly ...not always so .
We feed Victor Select (purple bag) no corn , wheat, soy,or gluten.

A group of us here in Minnesota ordered a load of HUNTERS BLEND but they sent one called LIGHTNING MIX. I haven't fed any yet, but the ingredients aren't the same and I liked HUNTERS BLEND. Lightning Mix has corn in it, but it is way down the list of ingredients listed. Has anyone fed LIGHTNING MIX? If so how was it? I hope it's good food as i have 750# sitting her to feed after I use up my other feed, which will be soon.

If you read the tag on the hunters blend it says lighting mix on it. They are the same the only difference is the price of the bag itself.

Corn based feed stresses the kidneys and digestive systems of dogs. Your kidneys is the filtering system of your body. When it starts being stressed high levels of toxins are allowed to pass thru your bloodstream and major organs,. Over time it wears the dog down and leads to heart attacks, strokes, etc.

We have given you guys the facts and you refuse to accept them and want to rely on some cracker jack box education and old wives tales to rely on instead of SCIENTIFIC FACTS.
