larry duncans buck creek rowdy.was poison in sweet corn patch while coon dog couple nigths ago.i you dont know if you know he was high scorning dog one at english days.he was poison with golden marlin fly bait mixed with coke.once dog drinks this there nothing can be done save the dog.

but what would be the point of putting poison out in a sweet corn patch? wouldnt that kill anything that ate it? coon, deer, bear, etc? isnt it illegal in some areas to use?

This is used all over in Minnesota. Have to be careful when turning dogs loose in many places. Sweet corn farmers are the worst. Don't seem like the wardens here really care. Yes it's totally ILLEGAL.

i hate hearing these stories... the good ones are always hard to replace.

The sweet corn farmers by where I hunted beg me to come kill all their coon, in or out of season. I need more dogs for sweet corn season lol
I wish the state would take more action on this type of stuff but "it's just a dog"

Putting it out in southeastern Ohio,friend of mine was ready to cut my dog loose in a sweet corn patch the other nite and just happened to see two pans of it mixed with milk! Once a dog eats or drinks it they are dead before they can leave the corn patch.I think it is unlawful to put it out the way they are doing it,I would like to know for sure so something could be done,it's becoming a coon hunters night mare and a shame that people would stoop this low over a ear or two of corn!!

so apparently its ok with the wildlife mgmt ppl in these areas to kill the wildlife, nevermind the dogs. has anyone approached them or their superiors or the state houses? practices like this will decimate the wildlife in a state. if the stuff is illegal/banned, why is it still being made and sold? so many questions...

Non of the ingredients are illegal, but mixed the are deadly. Don't know about other states, but in Minnesota coonhunters are on the bottom of the Totem pole, here it's DEER, DEER DEER.

I had a farmer near me last year using this stuff, he came to me and told me so I wouldn't get my dogs in it, he said it would kill most anything that ate it, said he would find the coon 30 or 40 yards away, pretty much instance death. told him why don't you let me go in and shoot the coon for a young dog but he didn't want that, said he had 100 dollars in seed and his time and wanted the sweet corn for his family. same guy gets deer permits to kill deer for crop damage, gut shoot them so they run off and die so he doesn't have to take care of them, supposed to take the deer for meat to needy.

I think the guy just likes to kill

This has been going on in Mo. now several years. They mix grape soda, orange or coke. A neighbor told me he killed 36 coon last year. Some are found close by but he had some die with their heads still in the pan.

I heard it from a farmer that uses it that can kill multiple animals off one dose.Such as a coon eats the poison goes 10ft then dies,possum eats the coon and it dies, then the buzzard eats the possum and it dies.Must be some dangerous stuff.Hate to here bout a hound gettin into it.

if your a real coon hunter you know you dont always have complete control of your dogs. And if you can keep your dogs from following a fresh coon track into a sweet corn patch then you must own some real pot lickers.

Most LEO and state and federal biologist are well aware of golden marlin's use in poisoning animals. They have discussed this issue at the annual Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference. I have even read some white papers suggesting under cover stings to prosecute misuse of this product.

The biggest problem in the increase of this poison is the internet. I have seen where farmers are posting about the benefits of its use to protect crops. I have also seen the recipe was posted on a grape growers forum.

I did some research into this issue about 4 years ago.

We have places right here where I live that are thick with rattle snakes, I don't hunt there in the summer, I hunt other places in the summer. I guess it all depends on how many places you have to hunt and the risks you are willing to take.
