Can anyone explain what the first letter of the registration number indicates, for example, PXX-XXX or BXX-XXX? Do the rest of the numbers have any significance?

They are just part of the UKC number. The letter usually lets us know if the dog is Purple Ribbon or not, but that's it. The numbers have no special meaning.

Does the first letter B in the registration number indicate Purple Ribbon?

Yes. A UKC number starting with B is a Purple Ribbon dog.
