Rhodesian Ridgeback info

Kinda new to the whole internet thing, hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. Thinking about getting into Rhodesian Ridgebacks, had a couple of guys tell me they were great scent trailers/treeing dogs with a really high drive, but I talked to some breeders in Illinois/Iowa who told me in no uncertain terms that their dogs simply wouldn't hunt, they were strictly "companion animals." Not sure who to listen to on this one, last I checked the were in the hound group, did someone change the definition of "hound" and not tell me?

Everyone I've ever seen had limited prey drive. They make a good pet, but I wouldn't invest a lot of time in one trying to train one to hunt. There might be a hunting line, but prob have to go out of the country to find one.

I did talk with one breeder who made a point of advertising the fact that they had a lot of African bloodlines in their dogs, you might be on to something there
