Just got 25 in which I ordered second day air and they had cold packs with them but they sure were not cold.

You should call the manufacture of the vaccine. When that happens to us , they tell us these vaccines are developed to withstand a certain amount of time above the recommended temps. Then they send us a replacement tray to be safe.

I studied in between classes every chance I could during the day. My hometown was only 30 min from the school in Madison so I could get a few nights in during the week and then more on the weekends. I could be in the woods by 7pm in the fall and still get some studying in. Back then coon were bringing $40-50 so it was a way to help pay for school too.

My senior year, I was living on Lake Wisconsin and commuted. Hunting the Baraboo bluffs was a little more time consuming but some of the best hunting of my life. We made it to the UKC World Finals and won Purina Outstanding Coonhound Award for the Redbone Breed that year. Rotations my senior year made hunting easier for me.

The Dean saw my dog on the front cover of Coonhound Bloodlines my senior year in vet school and asked me how I had time for coonhunting and still go to vet school. One of my buddies chimed in , " you mean when does he have time for vet school?" Lol

Good luck in school and study hard. It will pay off in the long run.

Have her thyroid function tested thoroughly by a specialist. I'd recommend taking her to a Vet School for a second opinion. There may have been strictures that developed from that last abdominal surgery. Diet / Nutritional factors may also play an important role here. Adding Canine SuperFuel to a meat based diet might help with her hormonal balance. A good deworming program helps too.

Is there any truth that if you hunt a dog on a full stomach their stomach can roll,are they a better chance of it happening by feeding dry feed rather than wet feed,i was told once not enough water in their system was what caused it.
What is the best way to tell the difference in symptoms in, coon dog paralysis versus blastomycosis,and what is the cure for both, from what i have seen they both cause a dog to have bad paralysis in time.

Naval hernia

Hello Dr. Ahallada, No real rush to answer this question but when you get time. At what age do you recommend surgically repairing a puppy's naval hernia??

I have seen them sort of heal themselves over time but was wondering how much time to give one before having it surgically repaired?

Solved that problem by going to school in southern California... the only coon I tend to see are dead on the road. Can't really recommend it

Not a good idea to hunt a dog on a full stomach. Feed dogs after hunting when their digestive system is more efficient. Deep chested dogs are more prone to gastric torsion. Feeding meat based diets vs cereal based diets has decreased the incidents in deep chested dogs. You can add water to the dry food to improve hydration and slow down the eating process in most dogs.

Coonhound paralysis and blastomycosis are totally different types of diseases. CP usually causes dogs to become weak in the back legs and unable to stand for days up to weeks. It can be life threatening if respiratory suppression occurs but usually resolves without therapy in 2-3 weeks. Blasto usually leads to respiratory disease in 85% and other systemic disease in 20-40% of dogs. From Pet Education Series:
"The symptoms of blastomycosis in dogs include lack of appetite, fever, depression, weight loss, coughing, eye problems, lameness, or skin problems. Signs are usually present for a few days to a few weeks. The disease can wax and wane with the severity of the symptoms improving slightly and then worsening again.

Up to 85% of dogs with blastomycosis have lung lesions and accompanying dry, harsh lung sounds. Forty percent of dogs with blastomycosis have eye lesions including uveitis, retinal detachment, and hemorrhaging into the eye. Skin lesions are found in 20 to 40% of the infected dogs and are often ulcerated and draining. Bone involvement and resulting lameness is present in about 30% of infected dogs."

I saw a dog last year that had Coccidiomycosis (Valley Fever) with spine involvement that had a hard time getting around in the rear legs. You can run Blasto titers and PCR tests to rule it out.
Blasto is treated with a combination of antifungals. CP is treated with supportive care. Steroids may or may not help. Avoidance of coon saliva/bites is preventative.

That's a sign of colitis. You could try some probiotics for starters or Metronidazole for a few days. You can cook a boiled hamburger and rice diet for them for a couple of days. Check into the Pro Plan Focus Puppy Chicken diet for a more digestible diet. Deworm with Ivermectin 1% .1cc per 10# or Panacur for 3-5 days to be sure you are getting rid of whipworms.

Orally. Some mix it with gatorade or put it in some soft food.

I'd recommend 16 weeks of age or sooner if it is severe. They should be neutered at the same time because it is hereditary and an unwanted trait. If it is gradually closing in and there nothing coming through, and it is less than your pinky finger in diameter then maybe give it more time. They are usually healed in by the time they reach a year of age.

I also need to add Dr, Hallada the antibiotic he was on and the one now which is (CIPRO) 500 MG. ,, I was told by my lady friends and My 2 daughter that antibiotics lead to Yeast infections which is Fungal ,, wouldn't it do the same in Dogs ?

They can get yeast infections from over use of antibiotics in certain situations but not Blasto. That's something they pick up in the woods near water. We saw a lot of Blasto in northern Wisconsin in hunting dogs.

It really is a regional decision. Here we just vaccinate for Distemper, Rabies, Parvo and Bordetella. If I lived in Lyme endemic areas I would vaccinate for Lyme disease and if I lived in the south I would vaccinate for Rattle Snake.

There is alot of debate right now about the new Canine Influenza vaccine that is supposed to protect from the newest strain that went through Chicago and parts of Illinois and then spread like wildfire throughout about 28 states. Most dogs got over it on their own without antibiotics. The mortality rate was really low, but it did hit kennels hard and it cost alot of money for people like me who had dogs entered in big hunts that came down sick on day one.
