Scratcbes

Why so many scratches or withdraws on night 2 of TOC?

Posted by Vic Stoll on 04-03-2022 02:05 PM:

Dogs being dogs

Didn’t win cast Friday night, no chance to win cast on Saturday night due to being too far behind

Sure wish I had these sensible guys in my cast! Down 500 or more and keep re casting just to be an absolute poor sportsman. There's no other word for it.

If they didn’t have to much minus, there could have been a chance of treeing an ole slick tail😁

300 with hour 20 mins left vs 500 with 40 mins left is not even comparable. Thanks though

I was sitting st 525 plus one had 0 one had 25 minus and they re casted with 20 mins left off a tree. I could be way off in my ideology but I think that's about as poor as it gets as a hunt if this magnitude. What should you expect from guys that just watched a dog tree 3 coon straight and not a single good job dog did a good job, etc.. nothing. Sad.. I hope I never let myself get to where I can't tell a man his dog dig a nice job getting under a coon. That is afterall the whole reason we're out there. It's not that anyone needs a pat of the back but it's just the right thing to do.

You were told nice job on all three coon kraken treed. I paid the same entry you did. I was entitled to hunt the whole thing. Never know what’s gonna happen.

One of the BEST SPORTSMANSHIP ACTS

I have ever seen was last night in the Mens Championship Game when North Caroline’s big man rolled his ankle and as he hopped to get on defense, the Kansas player held up play instead of going 5 on 4 so time could be called. This was with time running out for the National Championship!!!

That sure beats what I have seen on a cast when some won’t help look or refuse to shake the winners hand??

Was just great to see an act like that with what all in happening around us these days👍

Always gonna be winners and losers. Everyone likes for someone to get out of the way when there beat, doesn't always happen. Never the less in a two night hunt all you can try to do is when your cast both nights. I'll be the first to say when I'm beat good luck to you I'm headed to the house. Not saying everyone is the same. Been on both ends. Trevor sounds like you needed a better performance fri, maybe Saturday wouldn't have been so stressful

Is it a competition hunt when you are hunting by yourself or is it just one guy trying to run up his score? When everyone else scratches out or withdraws, the hunt should be over and you should have to go back to the clubhouse with the score that you have. You are no longer competing against another dog. Maybe we need a new rule.

Is it the dog or handlers fault when other dogs aren't prepared? I agree with keeping the cast together when guys withdraw or are scratched. But dogs staying it on any level in any hunt just because they "paid" the entry is elementary level mindset. When you're beat you're beat and if it fulfills your pride to be able to say you competed the whole hunt then that's sad and there's much bigger problems that need dealt with.

When guys are striking their dogs in the last leg of the cast down 3 plus coon in a hunt where you need a good score to advance that's just flat poor sportsmanship. There should be a class on sportsmanship before ever being allowed to compete in any big national level hunts.

Situations like this are the reason "UKC" hunters have a bad name from other folks in other kennel clubs. Guys over there accept when they are beat and go to the next one.

Guys over there advance on cast wins not high scores. Is it sportsmanlike for one dog to hunt by itself and run up a score while another dog has to compete with 3 other dogs for his score?

I'm not saying it is or isn't. Same can be said for drawing the best guides in the hunt vs. the worst ones. Until a rule is put in place requiring all dogs to stay in until the end most sportsman will withdraw when getting beat badly.

If a cast of dogs tree off game and 1 slips off and trees a coon and had an hour and forty minutes to hunt alone is it that dogs fault? It's really no different. Just wasn't there night and kudos to the dog that has a chance to tree a bunch of coon, he earned it by doing what he was supposed to do.

The only reason those guys should have stayed in is if they won their cast the night before. If they didn’t, then get out of my way. I do love the format of TOC giving everyone a chance at a nice prize but at the same time it draws people who really aren’t prepared or used to hunting for large stakes so they don’t know how to conduct themselves properly. This isn’t a local $15 hunt where all you are getting is a CW either way. In that case sure stay in because you paid your money but not in this particular case.

Competition hunting must be the only sport where you're expected to quit when you're losing.

Advancement in other sports tournaments it doesn’t matter what you score or if you win by 1 or 100. In this sport it does matter what your score is. If you cannot win please give the person who is winning a chance to advance.
