-- I know why our sport is going to the dogs. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=210049)

Posted by Triple D's on 05-17-2008 03:43 PM:

I know why our sport is going to the dogs.

We started the Helping The Youth Program. When we did we got calls and e-mails. Saying we were crooks, cheats and liers. I got calls from breeders and others saying we were hurting the pup market.

Now we are trying to get a program started to help the youth get the equiptment they need to get started. We have had people call UKC and post alot of neg. CRAP about this program. We have had calls from diff. ones downing us and this program. When all we have done is try and get youth into our sport. Without new people in our sport we will have NO SPORT SOON.

You have heard all the CRAP NOW LISTEN TO THE FACTS.

The Helping The Youth Program was started by just a few of us. We gave them pups we have raised. We helped get them into the hands of the youth. We have never ask anyone for a pup for anyone but a youth. We have taken pups to youth all over the country. WE HAVE PAYED THE COST OUT OF OUR POCKETS. Yes we have got some help from some good people in our sport and we would like to thank everyone of them.

The new program is under Coonhound Class. and it is called Youth Please Read. It is a way to help the youth get the equiptment they need to get started. It has been called a scam, we have been called cheats and liers, crooks again. We have been told we were useing it to get equiptment for our kids. We have vendors mad because it is hurting their bussiness. All of this is a bunch of CRAP.

Here is the facts: We are trying to help the youth get into this sport. NOTHING HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ANYONE EXCEPT THE YOUTH. NOTHING HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ANY OF OUR KIDS. IT IS NOT A SCAM.

We have talked to UKC and alot of others. We have ask them to help us. We have offered to let them dis. the items to the youth. Every item received WILL go to a youth. We have ask them to send a thank you to the ones who gave the item. This is a good program if we can get past this trouble. How do we do this. Please help us put a end to all the CRAP.

We have sent a list of everything we have received to Sam Snyder and have asked for his help.

We are trying to help but we can't help if all the CRAP cont. We are willing to change this program but we want it to be better if we do.

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED US AND THE ONES WHO WILL. Without help this is just going to be another program that did not work. The Helping The Youth Program is working and this will also but we need help. Please help us.

If anyone has any ideas plase fell free to give us a call. Here is my # 304-623-9788. Thanks for your tiime and we are looking forward to talking to you. Lets make this program a great one.

Don I think you and the others are doing a great job and a good thing helping the youth. My son posted an essay actually on the equipment page. Keep up the good work there are a lot of us that stand firmly behind what you guys are trying to do..A real good man gave him a dog to get started and its been a blast. Without the youth the sport has no future

helping the youth

Do not get discouraged because a few people are running you down. From where I set I honestly believe you had the kids, mine included in mind. FOLKS that is a very good thing.when you have a group of people willing to help (YOUR KIDS) that dont know you or the kids they should be commended not degraded. IT could be a few more of us step back and remmember where did we get our first dog did we buy him from a dog breeder for 2or3 hundred bucks or did you get it from your neighbor down the road who was willing to help, keep up the good work. Remember BETTER TO BE REBUKED BY A WISE MAN THAN PRAISED BY A FOOL!!!!

KIDS

The truth is,our childern are the future of everything. From coonhunting to running our country. If the number one priority of ANY coonhunting club or organization isn't it's youth program,it will wither and die.If you are not promoting youth and helping kids get started in coonhunting,we are all going to see it fade away into the past in our lifetime. It has decreased quite a bit since i was a kid. There are also alot of other factors that play into this also, such as loss of hunting ground and the ever present animal rights activists.Give support to the good folks that are trying to keep the youth into coonhunting. If you have a complaint about how they are doing things, voice it,but have a resolution for your complaint ready.Someone may have a better way of doing something, and it can be discussed in a civil manner, and the out come benefit all those involved.Bottom line,Get involved with the youth,be positive, and get along. What could be better than watching a kid being really excited over treeing a coon.Remember the first coonhunt you went on? Take care all.

Hey Don, who cares what some people say. You've got a good program, with great intentions, and it's helping kids get hounds and equipment that they otherwise couldn't get. Anyone who runs it down is just a jerk, plain and simple. I'll be making some leashes as soon as I get my supplies, and I'll be sending some down to you to distribute to the youth in your program. Keep up the great work you're doing!!

Don

Hey what you have done with the youth has been great..What essays ive seen on here are from true youth that want to get started in our program..Some maybe less fortunate than others but it doesnt matter what these kids have gotten are for sure what they have wanted and might not been able to without the help of all of us the youth are the future and we need to pull together and help one another not bash each other or talk crap about the program..And for the ones that have all i can say is grow up i myself had a walker man give me my first dog and it was a black and tan female..Never had a dad that was in this sport of coonhounds beagles but i chose the coonhounds..And if it is hurting the pup market who cares im not lookin to get rich just put my pups off Buck into the hands of hunters or a youth i may have one bluetick male pup left off Buck and if he dont sell at english days all i need to find is a youth that would also promise to take care of it and take it to the hunts i would donate another pup myself i would donate a pup off each litter we have here if it would help get another young one into this dying sport..Don keep up the good work and if we can be of any help just shout you have a New Yorker willing to help the youth and will give you a hand at english days take care..

Hey Don I'm behind you 100% on helping the youth. I will never forget the feeling I had as a kid when I was given my first bird dog and my first hound. They are our future. They all need to read some of the good book, the BIBLE!!!!!!!!!! JESUS tells us to suffer the little children. He also said that whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

I think that the guys that are putting your program down are the crooks. I think this is why alot of clubs are folding, there are some people out there that think any money made off of this sport should be in their pockets. Also we have too many puppy mills now a days, what happen to doing whats best for the sport. All in all if we don't start helping the young ones out we are killing our own sport. kEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS, don't listen to the negetive.

Don you and everyone involved in this Youth Program need to ignore anyone putting you down or calling you names. What you are doing is something that every hunter in the World ought to try to do!

I am 17 yrs old almost 18 now, and I have been lucky enough to have a dad that has always enjoyed this sport and a grandpa that was the same as him therefore, I have been around coonhounds all my life as my dad was and i got to have puppies about anytime I have wanted them and to be honest, i believe a lot of times i'd hurt my dad's feelings for not being interested as he would have liked but, now i'm really back into it and i really love this sport.

I have seen my dad take my friends that have never been hunting and get them interested while i sat home and he really enjoys it, and even now he always offers to take any kid hunting and i can't tell you just how many times he's gave lights, boots, chaps, puppies, ect to my friends and some of his friends kids.

My point is, not everyone has the chance iv'e had to keep me interested and i believe every kid deserves at least the chance to explore this great sport to see if he/she may want to continue.

Anything that me or my dad can do to help you help the Youth, just let us know!

Thanks Gary for letting us be a part of this, hopefully what you guys are doing, will keep some young folks out of trouble and lead a good life without the drugs and other issues that are so frequently getting them.
