Spayed female
Wondering what people with actual experience hunting females that have been spayed think about spaying a dog they are going to hunt. I have a little female that is not registered that may make a good dog and i am wondering about spaying her.

People will tell you they get fat and lazy but Ive hunted with several that were the same after as before.
I've got one that's fixed and she's by all means not lazy one of hardest hunting dogs I've ever walked behind got a heart of a lion. Can not wear her out and shes won all over the place been on the cover of a couple magazines

I hunted a little gyp that was spayed. She’s a GrNt. Has almost 10k won in PKC. Still winning
I know of several that have won over $20k
There is nothing wrong with their ability just because they spayed

Get a Good One
i have two spayed females now.one is eleven years old and the other is two years old.they are probably the best two hounds i`ve owened. neither one is lazy and both will hunt hard.when i want to go hunting i don`t want a dog that is in heat.
I have one.
If you don't need pups out of her, go for it. Mine was having false pregnancies, so she is healthier, and she is more consistent. She gained a little weight, but it will come off if hunted regular.

I hunted one for years that was spayed won't hurt them a bit. If they get fat and lazy its because the owner didn't adjust their feed after their body went thru changes.

If you know you’re not going to raise puppies your female is better off being spayed especially if she has already raised a litter. When a bitch gets into the latter years of life she becomes more at risk for developing an infection in the uterus. Females who have had a litter are more susceptible than those that have not.
If it is an open form of this you’ll see a vaginal discharge and can get her to a vet and may be able to save her. If it’s a closed form of this you see no discharge and the infection is apt to become septic and there’s a good chance she’ll die from it.

Thanks
Thank you for your replies. This one didn't work out but it's changed my feelings about owning a female. I have pretty much stayed away from them because I didn't want to raise pups and hated them when they were in season/. Now if I find one I like I will just spay her.
