Opinions needed

Wanting a new 22 to coon hunt with, an for my grandson to shoot. I want either the T/C or the Winchester wildcat. Normally coon hunt with a buck mark pistol. So , what you fellas think?

Traditions Crackshot.

Short, light, break action. Put a leupold 2x7 rimfire on it and a sling.

Laser beam in a convenient, safe package.

There are several excellent 22 rifles to coon hunt with, if weight is an issue, I recommend the Cricket youth single shot and scope compatable , also, the Rossi th bolt action 10 round clip approx 5 pounds without scope and they have to the fire sights. I have one of the Thompson Contender Hotshot 22 single shot light as a feather, but not made any longer. You can also, get a Savage Rascal single shot that's very light and has the accutrigger. Pm me for any questions as I own a ton of 22 rifles and would give you the pluses and minuses of any rifle you want to know about. Dave

I have got to use a Winchester wildcat and will purchase one for myself. I like the ability to take it apart very simply for cleaning. I like the ability to clean the barrel from the rear instead of having to clean from the muzzle end. There are a lot of rifles that have been cleaned from the muzzle improperly and have had the crowns ruined. I have put around 1500 rounds with 12 different brands of ammunition through the rifle without a hiccup. At 50 yards the rifle would group 10 rounds within a half dollar sized group with all ammo tested. Some ammo would group 10 rounds within a quarter sized group or less. I did try some CCI shorts and Longs which shot fine. But as with other semi automatics they weren’t strong enough to reliably cycle the action. I would have no problem using one to coonhunting with. They are short and lightweight perfect to coonhunting with. I carry a cricket because of its size and there are a few semi autos of the same size. If you are wanting a semi auto I would say buy the wildcat. The wildcat has a descent trigger it has about a 1/8 of creep and about a 1/8 in of take up before you reach the wall at where the trigger breaks. I’ve definitely seen worse triggers. The trigger may be able to be made better. Sorry about the long post but this is my experience with the wildcat.

Not the best choice for your grandson, but a 10-22 ruger is hard to beat. I imagine the little ruger bolt action would be a good choice though too.

22 rifles

Depends on the age of your grandson as to what 22 rifle I would recommend. If he is to small for a full size stock ( longer ) there are several youth models that make excellent coon hunting rifles. Cricket, Henry minibolt stainless steel, Savage Rascal, Henry Accubolt full size stock in stainless steel, Rossi RB bolt action 10 shot clip to name a few. Dave

I have a tc22 and have had no problems with it, I originally was going to buy a wildcat but they weren’t available in stores yet so I picked up the tc. Everything off a 10/22 including clips will fit the tc.

Lever action Henry light and you can pour it to them when need be. No coon lost reloading.
