Building New Kennel... Advice Needed

I need to build a new kennel and I'm trying to decide the best route...

I've seen the "kennel kits" at home depot and tractor supply but the reviews online aren't the best and they aren't that cheap (around $300)...

Should I try to build my own?

What have you guys done?

I was thinking I could probably build one a lot better quality and better suited to my situation for the same money or less. Although I'm more concerned with quality than saving a few bucks.

How many dogs do u have? Will kennels be on concrete? And how nice do you want it?

Will only have one dog. Most likely more in the future, though.

Haven't decided between concrete or small sized gravel...

I live in the mountains so the ground is already dirt/rock for the most part.

Was thinking of doing like a 10x10 with two gates so I could turn it into two 5x10 later on if needed.

How nice? I want it to last several years. Doesn't have to be super fancy, but I live at 10,000 ft so the winters are a little rough at times...

I was thinking of doing a "lean-to" type of carport behind the house and putting a kennel under it.

Here is my kennel I built a few months ago. I built it with one dog and planned for two. I now have two if you can see the pictures. I bought everything at menards, even the kennels. All in all, it cost a little over 1,200$ but it is really nice.

Besure --

That your hound gets some sun if they want and I would use concert but be sure that it does not have fiberglass in it and you slope it good so "everything" drains good. Gravel or pea rock is a catch basin for health problems.

I see you said mountains and winters----if you but it under a roof---be sure that it's high enough so it extends far enough past the gate or you'll have a lot of shoveling every time it snows. Trust me on that one!!!
