Getting young dog to go out further

I probably know the most common ideas & ways to train a pup to go out further on its own but I'm interested to hear what are some of yals tricks in training a young hound to go out further from you on its own? Mine is improving every time out but I want to know if there is anything else I can do.

Keep hunting them and sometimes I cut them loose and when they take off I drive up the road a piece, if your not there for them to come back to they usually go on hunting...

I've had success with this before, but on foot not with a vehicle. Walk them in 600-1000 yards on leash and once they blast off I sneak out. A dog can easily track you or a vehicle though if they want, I've seen it numerous times. The key is, whatever you try, a coon needs to be involved. Set it up and make it work, it's not easy but just ranging out for no reason is pointless. Have a coon in a trap or freshly released at distances you like then cut em. It's confidence and reason...IF they have the desire. It's easy to make one stay away, but you can't make them hunt.

Also, most any dog will run a clean logging road, but that can develop some habits you might not like later. Again, have a coon "setup" way out there so they can put two and two together.

I like one that just knows to go from birth. No tricks. No training involved. To bad all are not like that.

Absolutely!! that's what separates! those that are natural at treeing coon and those that takes a lot more work!!!naturals from hunt/strike/trail/tree!! take these!!
