its a sure way to maintain the traits you like I've attempted to do this very same thing but missed the cycle. i'm going to make this very same kind of cross next time my gyp comes in. these kind of crosses will sure tell all. best of luck to you and I hope it works great.

The female's

mouth is not that great but will split and hold pressure. The male has a real good mouth and kind of more a pack dog but will split some , both are real accurate . Both got the same dad Herron's Blue Ace . And they are like 20 days apart 17 months old .

Just do it! breeding these hounds makes no sense, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. You won't know if you don't try

Half brother sister cross

I think it's to close JMO here's a couple of successful hounds that were half brother sister cross Droop Jr sire and dam both were out of Myers Smokey II .Droop JR was 2 time Purina champion 2 years back to back and there was a walker back in the 1990's Hanna's Creek Mack Attack that won the UKC world hunt was a half brother sister cross best I can remember and there are others I'm sure u would be surprised when u go to checking out the peds. I don't know of any from a half brother sister cross that have made good reproducers there could be I just don't know of any.

many years back....

Dave Dean did gr nite ch dean's northern blue hammer II and his northen Blue Echo II...thus he had gr nite ch warson's northern blue trapper and hoy biscamp, texas, dual ch biscamps blue lisa. and this again, is way back. there are blues today carrying some of that breeding back a ways. I did an article many moons back on this cross. someone may have a copy of the BBCHA book article and can print more on it. it's well worth reading, even on some of Dave's ideas.

I have done this with my gyp and had some nice dogs come out of it the first time, but my gyp was an outcross and the line wasn't heavy line bred. Like mark said just try it and hope it does good, that's all anyone can do when breeding. All you can hope for is the good traits come out and not something that's hidden that you haven't seen in the dogs.

The most important factor in this type of cross or any cross is the individuals you select to make the cross with. There is merit to the idea that -"you must make the cross to find out." Just consider this one example if you can. If you wanted a tall dog and had two half sisters to your male dog, one short one and one tall one. Common sense would tell you that more than likely the tall female would produce taller pups than the short female. This is a simple example of the importance of selection. On paper these dogs would look identical but are actually very different. Best of luck!

Danny,

I'm by no means a breeder, but about 15 years ago I had a nice female that I REALLY liked that was off a half bro/sis cross... She was a coondog

She was Casey Missouri Hammer bred and was a half brother, half sister cross
(Think the sire of both was Casey's blue Hurricane)...

On a side note, have you considered doing a father /daughter cross- breed your female back to ace... That may stack the preferered genes in there? But who knows
