Eye Colds
Has anyone had a hound that consistently has "eye colds". What I mean is that they have "gunk" in the corner and their eyes a lot of the time.
What can be done to prevent this? Why do they get it? I've seen it many times if they have been running in the weeds, etc. but this one seems to get them even if she hasn't been out of the kennel.

could be allergy, or might have a weed seed stuck under the eye lid. You can get a Neosporene salve to put in there eye, it seems to help clear them up.

Eye wash every day to avoid infection, i would also avoid breedng her. Who wants a dog that you have to wash there eyes every time you have had them in the field.

I had a female that got terrible eye snots at a certain time of the year. With her I was sure it was an allergy thing so I gave her a benadryl when it got bad, that helped. I have one right now that has them all the time but not as bad as she got them. I just carry a paper towel in my shirt pocket when I feed and wipe them out for him. My dogs are housed right along a grown up filed, I assume that's where my issues are coming from. I think dogs get allergies just like we do.
They do have allergies. If it's allergies benadryl, however dogs have 3 eyelids I believe, and I know of lots of other breeds have had challenges with sagging eye lids, and stuff
Yeah if its just allergies, benadryl will help, along with eye wash. If its genetic, just gonna have to wash them every day.
