breeding to make money?
I see these guys with dogs for sale and they say il take her to this dog or that dog or maybe to this one and sell pups for more. Shouldn't you breed to make a good, we'll balanced cross for you're self? Not the hot stud to sell pups? Idk much iv only raised two litters and they were for me not to make money. What do you guys think?
My oldest female has been breed twice took 2 years to find the right male dog and he wasnt some big time stud dog just made the right cross 2 of those pups now 6 years old will die at my house second cross to my 13 year old male 1 pup went to be a house dog gave her away 2 will die at my house i only sold 1 and that made me break even wirh shots and tas to take her to her new home i think if people made more crosses for them selfs instead of money there would be less dogs needing jockeyed from place to place because the parents didnt cross well jmo
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree as well.
I doubt I have ver made money off a litter. Stud fee, puppy food, shots and wormer cost a lot these days. I raise a litter when I need a new pup. The tire kickers and the folks that have you send 100 pictures get me a little frustrated. People saying that theyre coming down tomorrow, save that one for me. Then they don't answer you back when you text them where theyre at. Selling pups sucks.

Anyone trying to make money breeding hounds isnt to bright, i see guys complaining about 3 or 4 hundred bucks for a well bred puppy.
My wife breeds those little french bulldogs and gets 3500.00 a pup at 8 weeks old and no one expects them to do anything except be cute.
Win a world hunt with a male and you might make a few bucks for a couple years on stud fees and pups, but even that only lasts until the next superstar comes along.

Everyone wants UKC to change the performance program so it will pay out more money, Or start a Breed race that pays money, Or Start a State race that pays money, Or a pup hunt that pays money, All this so it will help the attendance Yea Ok, Stud owners have x-out that pays money what ever that is, Stud hunts where dogs sired by his Stud Only are allowed to hunt that pays money, Guaranteed a winner out of his stud at this hunt LOL, earn x amount for the first NtCh or GrNtCh Exc Exc.. But You Try To Sale Puppys and Get Them In Good Hands AND you will be Labeled (Just Breeding For Money) LOL!

2010 SETWA BREEDER OF THE YEAR!!
At our club guys bring in old magazines to pass around and to just browse through and such. I happened to pick up a Dec 2004 bloodlines. There is an article is in that month says please let the pro breeders do the breeding. And goes on to explain that there's more to having a litter of pups than just breeding the dam.
From my past experiences I know this to be true. And I will in no way shape or form do another litter. The pups were too hard to sell or even give away. I sold a few that I thought had a decent chance given they were going to experienced hunters. For the ones that were given away they were given to kids. And at 7 months I got one back do to the kid not taking care of the pup. She ended up with a young man I can say hunts prolly more than any other person I know or ever will. When I got that pup back she didn't know anything. Never really walked on a lead or loaded in a box just put out back and forgot about.
I'm not trying to get off topic but I'd recommend to do research on how you could ever make $$$$ selling pups for $200-400 or even 500. By the time you sell them you have way more money in each pup. Let alone you loose your dog for awhile. You don't want to take the chance of her having an accident or worse being killed on the road then have to care for the pups yourself.
I am no breeder but I don't see whats wrong with trying to make a few bucks selling pups. If you think their overpriced, don't buy them.
The last litter I raised were out of 2 ukc world champions and I sold all the females for 2 thousand each at weaning.
The guys that bought them titled them and then bred them to stud dogs out of 2 other ukc world champions and as far as I know everyone is happy happy happy.
Pups are like anything else, they are worth what someone is willing to pay.
