-- Range with new Garmin mini? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928427172)
Range with new Garmin mini?
What difference are folks seeing in the field when it comes to range between full size and new Mini collars?
I know Garmin advertises reduced range but I have heard it's not too bad

We did some testing today with the Mini and it performed better than the TT 15 we put it against.

Just getting the T5's in and the TT15 are not in yet.
Yes, you can go to gamins website and see the differences.
i run beagles on hare in very thick cover- dont get a chance to test range alot-- they normally dont run too far - most the time when i had full size and minis- same place same time-- i was loseing signal about a tenth of a mile sooner with minis---very little difference- ive seen times that minis were better- - i dont think there is a big difference except battery life- and ive had some serious reliability issues with minis not working at all after loosing gps-- but when they are working i think just as good as full size- - -- i am very sure that its not 4 miles and 9 miles difference as advertized- if u want a max number-- ive had minis work continuosly to 2.35 miles- in the woods with handheld-- that is farthest ive seen with any garmins on beagles on hare-
when i had astros on beagles - i was lucky if it measured fraction of miles-- 6 tenths of a mile about average and minis in same situatiion .75 to 1 miles is very normal - fairly common to get 1.25 - miles -- get to a high spot and really increase that - use truck antenna and double it--
when i ran bear dogs with astros id get 1.5 miles routinely --and double that with truck antenna - -also had lots of times lost signal and dogs in hearing- -
- so much varies- - it amazes me the difference ive seen just because of difference in height of dogs-- im trying to give you realistic numbers where and how i use them -
only difference I have seen is battery life. run it on my squrriel dog and my coonhounds.

I have a buddy that has two minis and they don't perform as well as my TT10's in the steep rough WV mountains. It's not a huge difference but there is a difference. Battery life is not as good either. But for beagles, which is what he bought them for they do a good job.
