Hind Quarter

How common is it in walkers to have a hound with a cow hocked hind end. I have one now I'm concerned about. His stance in the hind Quarters seems wide, his movements seem jerky, his hind end is boney. The funny thing is he has a real nice ped. He is really built in the front, I'm assuming this might be because of a weak hind Quarters? I'll have to try to get some pics on here.
I don't know anything about this stuff. So I thought I would ask.

you say his stance in the hindquarters seems wide, cow hocked is the opposite, when the hocks are very close. Either way as long as the condition isnt severe it shouldnt prevent the dog from treeing coon.

Ok thanks John, yes he does tree coon, and sounds awesome doing it. However he seems to lack that extra gear, may be genetic but I wonder if it has anything to do with his poor conformation.

Like I said I know nothing about this stuff. I guess Ill have to get some pics. His feet splay outward, instead of being in line with his front legs. He bunny hops up a lot, and seems to keep his right foot off the ground more then normal. I did find a sore on his left foot, and have started to treat it, but I wonder if the sore is more from always favoring that hind quarter.

John, here you go, the dog I'm speaking of is the bigger red headed male. He is bred heavy in stylish hayes up close.

sorry the video is shakey and poor lighting, but it has a good shot of him running away from me.

I've got a walker gyp the same way except favoring her hind leg. But she does run funny and her feet splay outward.

May be Hip Dysplasia. I had a dog that hips were looking funny and bunny hopping, so had hi x-rayed and he has Hip Dysplasia.

Nice lookin hound, i dont think you have a problem, wouldnt worry unless the dog starts seemin sore after a hunt.
I would get him outa that little kennel as much as possible, its been a tough winter and they sure cant get enough exercise to get limbered up in those, i know alot of guys use them but i would rather see a dog on a chain.

Thanks! He be better looking if he didn't have so many freckles. Yeah I have a fenced in yard so he usually gets 20 mins a day.
Yeah idk I think he is pry all right, just doesn't have the best hind end. I think a gentle sloping hind end, and straighter legs results in better movement. Idk guess I have some more reading to do.

He does have a little hitch in his giddy up. Something to keep an eye on.
