i am a sad trainer!!!
i want to share this story and im sure anyone whos been around a coondog or two will enjoy or at least get a chuckle or two!!!
been breaking some young dogs with a lot of good and a lot of bad. LOL. 2 of the dogs are one year old female littermates and neither have gotten the time they should but both are doing alrite. they are accident hunting breeding from sams tango and minn.
drifty has had more time and training, always having garmin and tritonics every time out whether on the couple training exercises or real hunting. shadow was not supposed to stay here and got neglected with way to much kennel time. shadow saw one coon briefly and never a release. recently started letting shadow run loose figuring they werent coming to get her and thought would play the odds even though i hate letting a dog run the farm with traffic and what not. shadow has been hunted 6 times with my old dogs never with any kind of collar until tonite and that was tritonics just to work with toner on calling her back.
the two dogs act a lot a like but shadow who was a little timid and has zero training is blowing drifty away hunting and in only couple hunts getting the best of my old dogs on a couple occassions. im almost in denial how well the retard is doing.
tonite hunted drift and weez with nothing going. went home got shadow and minn and trix. with shadow running free so much ive worried about her getting trashy like drift was at first but hasnt happened yet.
first drop shadow struck and treed before the old dogs did. had multiple coon in couple mulberry trees growed together. dropped again all dogs struck corn race ran hard and treed with coon. dumped shadow solo and got around a quarter mile im guessing and struck with nothing going and after awhile dumped two old dogs and they went that way but didnt say a thing and caught at road. who knows what shadow was barking at.
went home and right by my place all 3 dogs rigged hard. shut em up, checked pups then came back home and was talking to mama. the 2 old dogs got crates in house so let them out to drink with shadow while i put my gear inside. tiff opened door hollaring shadow is going nuts south of the house. by the time i got boots back on minn and trix were heading towards her and all slammed treed in couple minutes. had another coon. stupid **** dogs, bet people in area gonna be cussing me tomorrow!!!
shows what ive known a long time that these dang dogs can teach themselves more running free than a handler can while training, if the dog has "it". i wish i could move somewhere with no people or traffic within 40 miles and still make a living. i would let every pup run loose but around here dont always get this lucky and they would get ran over somewhere guaranteed.
happy with all the young dogs ive been messing with but cant believe out of these 2 littermates the one with all the "training" has trashed on everything but skunks and dumb shadow has been straight and even out done my 2 best on couple occassions. guess im always learning... never would have thought the most neglected dog on the place would turn it on hard core like this.....
