Measuring distance with the Garmin Alpha?
I know how to touch the map screen to get the thumb tack and measure from where I am to any point on the map with the Alpha, but like my old Astro, what if I want to measure from one point to another. The old Astro started the measurement at the thumb tack and allowed you to create a dotted line to wherever you want to measure to.....I thought I had it figured out but it's not the function I'm looking for! I can't find this in my Garmin Alpha booklet either.
Example: I know how far I am from my dog but lets say I want to know how far it is from my dog to the nearest road to determine if it's closer to drive around. Or, how far it is from road to road on the map???

Measure to your dog and hit enter. The tack will reposition to your dog then measure to the road. That's how it works on my 220.
I had a 220 for years and know exactly how to do it....this is an Alpha, not close to the same thing.

garmin
i had to call gamin and get it updated to have it show up.
I have tried everything, not in the manual and tried someone else's direction and the option they described is not on mine....so, I'll probably have to do that too. I love the function and want it on mine!
Thanks!

.
Travis plug it into the computer and run the web updater. It will then be on yours.
Thanks Bruce, I heard it was highly requested after the Alpha came out and they added it, but I guess the unit I bought was in stock before the update. I need it where I am worse then where I lived before! I thought I could do it with the route icon that was on mine but after testing it in the field it was not what I was looking for. I'll run the update and try it as requested by another owner and see if it is an option then. I tried to do it with another Alpha users direction and I did not have that option of measuring distance. Hope this works!!!
Thanks again Bruce!!!

Run it and your done
You get the alpha updated and you are still having problems give me a call Monday and have your Alpha. We will get it going.
