Leash Lock ???
ok fellas help us out. 4 dogs cast, near the end of the hunt dogs A & B are treed and cast is shining tree. dogs C & D are trailing. Cast handles dogs A & B and walk from tree ( at this time there is only 4 minutes left in the hunt ) before dogs A & B are turned into other dogs, dog C is treed but dog D is still trailing. Can dogs A & B get turned to dog D or are they leash locked??

I don't think you're leashlocked unless all dogs not handled are declared treed, or dogs are scored out of order.

Thanks Mr Nantz, that makes sense to me. If dog D still has a chance to score points why should A & B be locked. I wasn't there but my buddy Kirk called me last night and was explaining what happened. Neither of us knew for sure the correct answer. it turns out handler of dog C was the judge and won the cast with that last tree and didn't let A & B off leash. Live and Learn!

This can get a little tricky but I'll try so here goes .
Yes you can turn loose in your case cause you have a dog trailing . Now for the tricky part ......... Say ALL 4 dogs struck . A trees and scored . Now B trees while A is still on leash . You have the option to cut A to B cause C , D are trailing right . But if you decline B tree and now say if C was to split tree . You DO NOT have that option cause you declined B tree . You have to wait until " B tree is scored " then C tree is available cause D is still trailing.
So to sum it up , if you decline one tree , that tree has to be scored before you have any options on the other dogs if they were to split .
Thanks Charles, had to read that a couple of times. lmao

The simple way for me to remember it is if after scoring your tree and :
If all other dogs are treed = you are leashed locked- No options
If all other dogs are trailing = you MUST cut loose - No options
If one dog is treed and any other dog is not decalred treed = you have the option to cut or not to cut but you have to make the decision right then.. You can't wait and change you mind later.
So, there's three possibilities with three results.

I would also just ad that the dog that is out doesn't even have to be trailing or struck in.. The only requirement is that he is loose out there somewhere and not declared treed. Hope that helps and good luck.

As some of these other guys have explained, you would have the option in this situation. Handlers choice.
