Dog In Trap???strange

WAS HUNTIN WITH A BUDDY OF MINE TONITE AND HAD MY BEE FEMALE GET CAUGHT IN A FOOT TRAP. WHAT WAS STRANGE BOUT IT ALL WAS THE FEMALE MY BUDDY WAS HUNTIN AND BEE WERE RUNNIN A TRACK AND BEE SHUTTUP. MY BUDDIES FEMALE SET DOWN AND STARTED TREEIN... THING WAS WAS THERE WAS NO TREE IN SIGHT OF WHERE SHE WAS. AS WE APPROACHED SHE RAN OUT AND MET US BARKIN THE WHOLE WAY, THEN TURNED AND RAN BACK IN TO WERE SHE WAS TREED. WHEN WE ARRIVED LADY WAS SITTIN ON HER REAR ON A POND THAT WAS FROZE OVER AND THERE WAS BEE ON THE BANK STUCK IN THE DANG TRAP. WOULDA BEEN A WHILE BEFORE ID HAVE GOTTEN CONCERNED ENUFF TO GET OUT THE TRACKER AND WALK IN TO TRY TO FIND BEE SO BASICALLY ID SAY THAT MY BUDDIES FEMALE PROLLY SAVED BEE HER FOOT. THOUGHT IT WAS KINDA FUNNY HOW SHE JUST SAT AND TREED AND NEW WED COME TO HER AND BE ABLE TO HELP BEE OUT OF THE TRAP........JUST THOUGHT ID SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE AND SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE.

Was hunting my old plott female and 3yr old redbone(ages at the time).They were both working a cold track in december along a large creek,moon out frost heavy slowly taking track when old female stopped moving track adn shut up, redbone kept going for awhile and then went backwards and starting treeing.never heard female again.walked into him and he was standing on creek bank barking,looked down could see coon tracks in snow going away but he wouldn't leave. I heard something to my left and lo and behold there was my old female in the middle of the creek standing on her hind legs in the water up to her chest and couldn't get out.Luckily red went back to her or she may have died after falling thru the ice.

I am glad your dog is fine. I had one of my females caught in a leg hold one time with no damage.

The thing is leg holds aren't designed to create damage. This is a common misconception. They are designed to grip and hold the foot. The more tissue and or bone damage the more likely the game will get loose.

If a dog is retrieved in a relatively reasonable time frame, I wouldn't suspect there to be any damage. I have never had a problem with leg holds. The traps I dislike are the 7" or bigger conibear traps.

Again, I am glad your dog is fine. If I was you, I think maybe I might start sneaking a few treats to your friends dogs.

Aim small miss small

There was a big problem with traps back when we could get good prices for hides. Back before tracking collars traps were dangerous. Dogs would get caught and the hunters could not find them. The trappers did not sell the caught dogs, they just killed it and left it there. I'm glad that prices are low now.
