All of the above depending on what part of the state.

I assume you are kidding about the "any corn"...........

Lots of river bottoms, some rough country/bigger timber in the eastern part of the state, lots of corn and agriculture. Lots of coon pretty much everywhere.

I've

always heard it's a mayor farming state. I'v hunted a lot in Michigan lots of corn, fence rows, hard woods. lots of coons. I used to be able just get in the truck and drive, find a coon field and turn loss. killed as high as 30 coons in one night. more than once. he's just worryed about the hunting. Not really sure what town yet. going to find out tonight he's got a interview next week and is really concerned how the coon hunting is there. The coons are big there ain't they? I know in michigan i'vw killed some 30 pounders.

Thanks for the info guy's

corn

If you are looking for a corn field to turn loose in and are comparing to MI or IN consider this....... 13 million corn acres in Iowa, 6 million in IN, and 2 million in MI.........

As far as 30 pounders, they occur but not nearly as many as guys will tell you about. Seems that everyone kills a handful of them around here every year but they never used a scale. I have killed a number of verified 25+ coon in the past few years but only 1 or 2 topped 30. Would guess MN, WI, and MI have the biggest coon.

The biggest factor here in Iowa is the number of coonhunters and trappers. Almost rare to be out during season and not hear some other dogs in the distance.

Hey tabtater,

About middle and upper michigan 25 pound coon is what you will see a lot of and thats a big coon for any body to tangle with. I'v treed one that was 33 pounds and a few that was 30, thats the biggest i'v seen in michigan, you here of a lot that say they seen them 35 or 40, but i ain't never seen one.

Sounds like Iowa is nice. I'v never been there.

It think Todd will be excited to see that country, sounds like a lot more than what he's hunting now in western indiana. Him taking that job depends on if he can coon hunt, I'll let him know.

Thanks Guy's.

I've coonhunted in southeast Iowa and the hunting wasn't much different than Michigan other than the up and down when around a draw or river bottom...... Lots of coon and lots of pheasants.

I picked up a pup from I think it was Union City, Iowa and it looked like coon country to me. It sounds like Iowa would be the perfect place to start pups. I would love to make it out to hunt one day.
