OT, why are the tops of steel post painted ?

We were building fence and this popped in our head . I know it sounds like a dumb question but why . Is it so you know wherethe top is if you are running from something so you know how high to jump . ???????????

Read instructions. Painted end goes UP.

so you can see them in the dark. they used to even have reflective paint on the top.

They dont have reflective tops anymore , Some post use to but not all .
