-- So I have this silent mouth dog.... (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=441198)

So I have this silent mouth dog....

And he can tree a coon just fine. Alone or with company, he follows his track step for step. With company opening up, he gives decent mouth, but if he finds a track alone, or first, he will not open! He will go ahead and be at the tree, but never open. As soon as another do opens, he will to.

Example, last night road huntin, both dogs wind and go up the hill silent. Garmin shows him treed 100 yds away within moments. Not a bark... Females works the track with mouth and when gets to the tree, he opens up and sounds fine.

Seen this dog stay at a tree alone and silent for 4 hrs.

Anyone else had a dog like this?
An any suggestions to get him to open more?

Silent

I had one that opened very little on track as a pup.Was totally silent on track when she was probably 1 1/2 years old.Would bark on tree though. You can tree alot of coon with a dog like that. Can't enjoy listning to a race or know where the dog is most of the time.

Haha! I love my garmin! An he is pretty Much a hot nosed dog, so his chases are short and quick. On the posative side, he is very accurate!

Well several reasons, I've owned this dog since he was a 6 weeks old. I know him inside and out.....for the most part. Lol. We road hunt, rig hunt, and walk hunt. Tracks he starts himself, never go very far with or without company, so I know that a coon hasn't been traveling far b4 getting treed. He will hang with another dog that's runnin a track, but untill it get good and warm, he is just hangin with the other dog, not runnin the track, now when he gets on it, he usually will lead the chase, but not always.
